20" bar or less? Get this!
Excellent, easy to assemble, tough, works well for my 20" chainsaw bar and small-log use case

Works great, but you will need some accesories
This is easy to assemble and fairly easy to use. It does require some practice to get the hang of it, but that really only affects how fast and easy your cuts are, not how they turn out. If you're using a guide for the first cut, you can't really screw it up unless you go out of your way trying to. Some tips: -Make or buy a guide rail system. This is a must for your first cut, no matter how small your log is, you have to make it straight or all other cuts after that will be off. I made rails using 2x4's and use lag bolts to secure it to the end. You can buy the rails from granberg, but they are expensive. -There are lots of videos on youtube of people using the system in different configurations. Take some time and watch a bunch of them, get to know some do's and do not's by watching other people. Lots of good ideas out there. -Use wedges, even for small logs. The clamping force of gravity slows you down and squeezes the blade and that's bad for lots of reasons. -Get a small torque wrench. You don't want to over torque the screws holding your saw bar in place, you could bend it. 10-12 lbs max according to the instructions, so you have to have a wrench that goes that light. -Debark your logs. Cleaner and easier on your chain. -MOST IMPORTANT: Get a ripping chain. I did my first two logs with a standard crosscut chain that came with my Stihl. It worked, but it was a long, slow and very tiring process. I got the ripping chain and it was slightly faster, but a hell of a lot easier (for me and my saw.) I ordered mine from Granberg's website. They give you step by step instructions for how to order it so you get it right. FYI for chainsaw beginners, these are rough cuts, if you want finished boards, you will need to run them through a planer a couple of times.

Outstanding Chainsaw Jig for Slabbing Logs
I purchased this to slab a maple tree using my Stihl Wood Boss chainsaw. The item arrived on time and as described. Assembly and attaching to the chainsaw are simple. You should have a small ratcheting torque wrench, as the bolts that clamp the saw bar and hold the depth platform in place call for specific torque settings. Using rails to get the first cut, slabbing a log is straightforward work, although it's a good workout. It also pays to build a saw buck to hold your logs about 2' off the ground -- your back will thank you (ya' I have a tractor and can cheat using it to lift large logs). I used both 10 degree ripping chains and 30 degree cross cut chains. Ripping chains give a smoother surface, but are a bit slower - just keep them good and sharp. I used this on Stihls with 18" and 36" bars, and it worked perfectly on both. I tried cutting a 30" slab with the 18" bar, cutting from both sides, and it doesn't work very well, so use a saw bar longer than the logs. I also bot the Granberg winch. It works great too, and if you have a lot of slabbing to do, is a sound investment.

Good quality, assembly required
Works well; cool way to use random logs you may have lying around. A bit fiddly to put on. Make sure you hold up the chainsaw end adequately (push down into the log from the bar nose end), otherwise your items will be a bit wedge-shaped. Mine did have clear plastic included. Be prepared for some assembly. I think it could have been a bit more assembled for ease of intial use. Overall quality seems good.

Good product, good price
Got it recently and have only used it once, but seems like a good product. Every easy to assemble. Feels solid, easy to attach and adjust depth. I'm using it against the advice of everyone and the instructions and am using my Husqvarna 440 (40cc-ish) with the stock chain (+ a spare). Yeah it's definitely underpowered and takes more effort, but it gets it done just takes longer. On outer cuts like the starter cut, no big deal really. But getting into the thicker inside of the trunk at around max depth (14-16" for my saw for the trees I'm cutting), whew boy that's a workout and takes some work and is slow going. But it works. Can't just cut it straight, have to "back and forth" it otherwise it's too much to cut with my little engine. The back and forthing does make marks that'll have to be planed out, but not like these boards could be used without planing anyway.

This saw mill works great. I've used it to mill several hardwood trees ...
This saw mill works great. I've used it to mill several hardwood trees into lumber and it does a great job. The attachment to the saw bar works great on all of my large and small Husqvarna saws. The adjustments for lumber thickness are easy to adjust and accurate. After about 20 hours of use, none of the fastening hardware has come loose after an initial re-torqueing and the material the frame is built out of does not show any signs of stress fractures or warping. I do wish that the handle position was further back so that my face would be located even further from the exhaust. Breathing the fumes for long periods of time is a bad idea. A respirator, or perhaps Amsoil's 2-stroke oil may be a good resolution as it can be mixed more lean reducing the smoke. This mill is everything I expected, and I don't want to say anything bad about it but if I could go back in time, I would have bought the larger model that attaches to the bar on both sides. I do notice some slight sagging when using my heavy saw and feel the larger mill from Granberg would have been a better fit. Happy milling and best of luck on your project!

Possible manufacturing issue.
I'm giving this 2 stars for the moment. The reason is that there are holes out of alignment with respect to the main cross-piece. The holes drilled in the flat piece of aluminum that goes on the middle cross piece are a little over half an inch short. There is also one hole drilled out of alignment on the clear plastic piece with respect to the holes on the main cross-piece. This means I cannot complete the assembly. I'll likely find a replacement piece of aluminum but the hole in the clear piece is close enough that even if I drill in the right area I will end up with one large, oddly shaped hole. Update: I've changed my review to 3 stars due to the excellent customer service I received when I called Granberg support. They were a pleasure to deal with and they are shipping out replacement parts immediately. I think that this issue was likely an aberration and not indicative of their usual quality. Update 2: Works as advertised. Very happy with this purchase.

It included easy step-by-step photo instructions
The mill arrived as a box of parts. It included easy step-by-step photo instructions, and I was able to assemble the mill in less than 10 minutes. It also bolted to my saw quickly and easily. I have a Stihl MS210 saw (35cc) with a 16" bar and a standard crosscut chain. I knew my saw was under powered for this kind of operation, but my logs were only 6-8 inches wide and my saw never bogged down during the cut. I screwed a straight 2x6 to the log as my initial guide, and made the first cut. Then I removed the piece I cut off, readjusted the cutting thickness, and made a second cut using the previous flat cut as the guide. Everything seemed to proceed as expected, but unfortunately I did not achieve the results I was hoping for. The finished board was extremely rough and uneven, and it took several minutes to make each cut in my four foot log. To be fair, I didn't really have the right chain, as mine was just kicking out sawdust instead of shavings. But ripping chains for 16" bars are hard to find. In the end, I found I could make better cuts in half the time by just snapping a chalkline on the log and cutting it freehand without the mill. Once I square up the log I can mill it into boards on my bandsaw. Given the right chain and a powerful saw I'm sure this would work better, but it didn't perform as I expected with my current saw and chain.

En contre-partie, votre moteur doit รชtre assez puissant. Ceci dit, j'ai une Echo 490, 18", .50gauge, .325"pitch. Le travail รฉtait laborieux au dรฉbut car je voyais que le moteur forรงait puis, j'ai trouvรฉ ma vitesse de croisiรจre pour fendre mon bois. Les coupes sont bien droites et je suis trรจs satisfait du travail. Il ne me reste qu'ร planner mes planches. Je recommande ce produit sans hรฉsitation.

Great for smaller projects.
Very nice product. I used it with my rancher 455, worked great for relatively small projects. Well worth the cost. Good setup that it holds the bar securely. I used it with a 20 inch bar, and just regular chain. Plexiglass is a nice bonus to avoid more sawdust.

Works Great
I've only used this a couple of times but it worked very well. There was a little bit of assembly but instructions were clear so it went pretty quick. It works as advertised and was easy to move along the log. Very good unit.
