Johnson Hardware 1500 Series Commercial Grade Pocket Door Frame for 2x4 Stud Wall (36 Inch x 84 Inch)

Great kit for installing a pocket door. Room design included a glass partition between the door top and the ceiling in order to allow window light into a closet area. Steel studs can be cut to necessary length with a cutting wheel on an angle grinder. When sandwiched between drywall, the assembled door is stable, even with minimal overhead framing. Door width can be adjusted and includes all installation and customization instructions. Three wheeled trolleys roll freely on the overhead track and are able to support a heavy door. Frame thickness is 4 inches so it fits well into an exiting wall so there is no loss of space in a room if replacing an existing door with a pocket door. Great price and easy install. All needed hardware is included except for a latch if desired.

Replaced a conventional swing door in a small 1/2 bath for "disability access". Johnson pocket door frames are far superior to the cheaper big box store frames that I found locally. Those might be OK for a rental property, but not in my house. Installation was straight forward with good documentation. The only thing I did not like was the slight deflection (at center position) of the rail when the door was hung. I added support with a couple of long bolts with nuts to and through the header above, and then installed the steel clad studs. I know this was done out of order (according to the instructions), and was likely unnecessary because the steel studs should provide adequate support on their own, but doing it this way allowed me to test fit everything before drywall and insured a plumb, square install and smooth, flawless door operation. Easy five stars.

The picture for the 30" x 80" shows the solid metal studs, but the product that arrived was the wood wrapped in metal, so not as rigid. Seller offered a discount for the "misunderstanding" but even the description said it should have been solid metal. All of that aside, it's still a quality product and easy to install. Just follow the directions and build a square rough opening and you're good to go.

I like the way it goes together. Very good quality materials. The instructions could be a little easier to view. The instructions are on the paper but are hard to see (diagrams are too small)

So far I am pleased with this product. I was opening up a space between 2 smaller bedrooms and it made the remodel much easier. I have limited experience with this sort of thing. The skills I have were learned while working for the Appalachia Service Project repairing homes in West VA and Tenn. with friends from church. Having this easily assembled kit (along with the pocket door jam kit) made the process pretty cook book. I thought the instructions were pretty good so those (along with viewing some online installation videos) and making sure things were plumb and level at each step resulted in a successful installation. I did get the jam kit at my local Home Depot as it was a good bit cheaper than on Amazon, but the door frame kit was the best deal and quickest shipping on Amazon for sure.

Overall I’m happy, solid, easy enough to install. The aluminum door slide in mounted noticeably crooked though. This made trimming out the door a pain. I feel stupid because I had already done all the drywall, plaster, and trim work and was 95% done prior to noticing this. I would assume this piece would have been screwed into to the wood with utmost precision.
