An Optimist Navigating the Absurdities of Love
Sophie Kipner is a beautiful writer and artist full of spunk and spontaneity. In The Optimist, she offers her sharp observation of human nature in the form of one woman’s endless search for love. I don’t know a theme more universal than that.Take this novel to the beach, read it after a break up, and be prepared to laugh-cry the whole way through as you watch someone go through the absurdities of life and love.- Lauren H BrownLaurenhbrown.com

LOVED this book
Never have I ever laughed this hard while reading a book. I found myself with a smile on my face the whole way through. Such a great read, but I loved it so much I didn't want to finish it. Don't remember the last time I was so sad to finish a book, you will fall in love with all of the characters that much❤️ Couldn't recommend this read more! Will remind you how beautifully life and love is!

Sophie Kipner has such a fun, zany voice and masters the art of comedy ...
I binge read The Optimist. Sophie Kipner has such a fun, zany voice and masters the art of comedy in Tabitha Gray's approach to love. I 100% recommend it. The Optimist is a treat to savor or devour in one sitting.

Turns out the author is also a talented artist as well.
Bought this book for my wife, she can’t stop raving and saying good of a read it was. Heart felt and relatable.

Unique, quirky, and outrageously funny!
The Optimist is an exceptionally charming, highly entertaining story that takes us on a journey with the positive, determined Tabitha Gray as she sets out to find true love and ultimately "the one."The writing is witty and light. The characters are affable, self-reflective, and genuine. And the plot is a humorous, clever, flirty mix of embarrassing moments, awkward situations, laughs, romps, familial dynamics, friendship, entertaining hijinks, and a touch of tenderness.Overall, I would have to say that The Optimist is an adorably romantic tale with a lot of humour and heart that does a beautiful job of highlighting that even in a world that often seems pessimistic we still have an innate desire for companionship, intimacy, and love.

Adorably Quirky and Smart!
A friend turned me on to Kipner having seen her art- knowing nothing about the book- she sucked me in immediately. The story follows Tabitha, an energetic, free spirit with a heart of gold looking desperately to be loved and acting out our most ridiculous impulses to make her way. She darts from one hilarious sexual encounter to another. She’s wild and sharp as a dagger; a total kook. You just want to squeeze her and tell her everything’s going to be all right. It’s light, young, hilarious, super awkward, heart breaking and above all incredibly insightful. It’s bawdy, but I’d want my teens to read it. I just loved it. It aught to be a Netflix series or something. 10/10 would binge.

A delightfully batty heroine . . .
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. With a heroine who seems to do her level best to make a fool of herself I should have hated this book but I didn't. Tabby's hopelessly romanticised take on life was endearing rather than annoying so even as I winced at some of the things she said and did I still rooted for her. The book itself was well written and the characters well drawn so that they all felt like real people rather than props or extras for the main character's story.Well worth a read!

work out for the best. It's a delightful
This book arrived on my bedside table at an opportune moment in life, when I was feeling low in my own sense of optimism and worrying that things may not, in fact, work out for the best. It's a delightful, smooth, funny read. The protagonist is pretty bonkers and a little un-relatable, if unlike her, you can read other people's cues and body language. But when you suspend that disbelief and recognise her emotional, over-enthusiastic, excitable, possibly high-on-the-autism-spectrum personality, you start to love her and wish her success in her quest. It's refreshing to see things through the eyes of an adult who still believes in high romance and magic. Many of us want to, but are afraid to voice those thoughts. The sub characters are well fleshed out, believable and a good foil to Tabby's high-strung energy.I was anticipating reassuring chick-lit and hoping for funny. I was well rewarded and also, I was pleasantly surprised how touched I was, often, at the author's insights into the human condition. A lovely book.

Genius new read
Sophie Kipner’s debut novel ‘The Optimist’ is a rather unusual book – and as the green cover suggests it’s not ‘just’ chick lit, men will enjoy it just as much. It’s very fresh in its approach, wild and outrageous, with a very strong voice. The perfect book to get for the summer because it is fun, quirky, yet full of wise words on the subject of love and relationships. The Optimist is written episodically, one can easily imagine this book being turned into a TV series, and tells the story of L.A. girl Tabitha Gray, her mother and sister and their relationships with men. Each chapter tells the story of one of Tabitha’s outrageous endeavours to find true love. A lot of books in world literature deal with this subject, but nobody does it like Sophie Kipner’s Tabitha. She is definitely extremely bonkers (or extremely optimistic?) and very, very likeable.I enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait to read it again and again ...I am also a big fan of Sophie Kipner’s ‘don’t lift up, don’t look down’ style portraits which are also featured in her book.

I think she’s meant to be endearingly quirky...
She just comes across as completely insane. I found it impossible to believe the ending. I gave it three stars because the writing was pretty good and I laughed a few times. But I couldn’t root for the main character because her behaviour and thought processes were just too bizarre
