Q: Can it hold a bread that is 10 inches by 12 inches?

The inside dimensions accommodate a loaf size of 5.25", the height and length is unlimited. Depending on what baker I use to make my bread in, I may have to turn the bread sideways to slice. So as long as the height of your loaf is not more than 5.25" it will work.

Q: The price is a typo right? $96.99 for plastic?

My price is $38.00 for a Presto bread slicing guide . Used but, in very good condition. The plastic is very hard and does not scratch easily. They are made to last for many years of use. Dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. I hope you decide to buy on and will choose my ad. I ship quickly from Florida.

The item is pictured in my ad. The ad that shows the packaging shows exactly what the bread slicer looks like. I do not have the original box. It is a very sturdy item that is dishwasher safe. I never used an electric knife with mine. I hope I have helped.

Oh my! That don't sound good. Yes it does look like a hard plastic pcv. Maybe a different knife would help. I would think a long knife preferated knife., and pay close attention on keeping the knife level so you don't cut into the sides of the guides.
