Any other "survival" kine shovel is a imitation toy! CS Spetsnaz = Real deal! Tool!
OMG!!! F! (Forget) Any other tactical/survival shovel This is the one! No extra accitraments or "multi" functions. Bighard NO! Straight up! Quality! Versatility! It is my go to for many many things I camp alot and as is (just a shovel) it is super versatile. Easy to carry. Great weight! Easy to unsheath and use! AND it sounds like your a hero in an epic battle to save the world from the worst evil every time you strike anything with it! Awesome weapon too if it ever came to that. Can shield! Can throw! Can strike! And pick up the pieces! My opinion. This is the shovel you need if you don't need a longer handle for that work. DO NOT BUY MULTI TOOL OR ANY MOVING PARTS SHOVEL! THOSE ARENT TOOLS THEY ARE TOYS! Even the sog or whatever that tan one brand is with the saw edge and bottle opener etc. I think it's smaller and lighter. So hard NO but also HARD no on the saw and extra crap. And some say thos don't cut as well as the other (tan) one. (Definitely not the wolf one!, would never buy that brand/style!) To that I say, it need a slight sharpening, and some say this shovel is too hard or can't be sharpened well as the factory To THAT I say get a good metal file and a good gnarly diamond grit file sharpener and thos will cut paper and hold an edge. I can't say enough good abkut this shovel. Major points to notice are! The size and shape/angel of the head. The weight! The handle length, quality AND SHAPE! The design and construction QUALITY!!! Made with easily set 2 wood screws! Not rivets or hard to remove search to replace pins. AND!!! THE JOINT WHERE THE MATAL MEETS TO HOLD THE HANDLE IS ACTUALLY WELDED CLOSED FROM THE FACTORY a simple but 1000x affective detail! DO NOT BUT A SURVIVAL OR TACTICAL SHOVEL THAT DOESNT HAVE THIS JOINT WELDED AS THAT WOULD JUST BE A REGULAR MINI SHOVEL WITH TACTICAL DESIGNS. NOT AN ACTUAL TOOL! this is the one! If you want the real deal TOOL! THIS IS THE ONE. IF YOU DONT BUY THIS SPETSNAZ (SURVIVAL/ TAC) SHOVEL, YOU ARE BUYING A TOY! and YOU are the TOOL! HAHAHAH you're welcome!

Best Bang for Your Buck Camp Shovel
First of all, one thing should be corrected. It's a standard issue Russian Army shovel from a design that goes back to the Czars. It's only a "Special Forces Spetsnaz" shovel in the same way an AK-47 rifle is a "Special Forces Spetznaz" rifle. Because it was issued to every soldier. Calling it that is just the Cold Steel company's marketing. That said, it really is good value for the money. There's a reason the Russians (and later their Warsaw Pact buddies) kept this as military standard issue for well over a century. It's light weight, well balanced, and durable. With it you can dig holes, hack down small trees, chop kindling, (with sharpening) slice vegetables, slash undergrowth, fry eggs, pound nails, and pry things open. Yes, you can use it as a self defense tool. Somewhere on YouTube there's a guy with a whole kata routine for it. It can even be thrown like a throwing axe and with practice, deadly accuracy. Though that last one is only really useful for camping entertainment. (Though it does feature in Russian Spetnaz propaganda videos.) The Cold Steel shovel also has a feature older Russian shovels don't. It's attached to the handle with two large Phillips head wood screws. The handle can be unscrewed to pack it even more compactly. Or, if you get tired digging while on your knees, you can carve a longer handle from a branch and screw it in to make it a full sized shovel. If you can find an appropriately sized "Y" shaped branch you can even carve a handle to make it a pickaxe or a hoe. It is definitely well paired with the (usually sold separately) nylon sheath for back packing and storage. With the sheath on it even makes a good back scratcher. A definite must to pack for hikes or in your car or truck. There are better camp shovels you can buy. But they are much more expensive and rarely as practical unless you're going to use and abuse them daily. One Cold Steel shovel will last a casual user decades and is easily replaced.

Shovel your way out of any problem!
This is a long known excellent product, high quality, tough, and durable. Also a fun cheap project if you want to customize. These are great for camp, and can serve as a impromtu machete, hammer, axe, throwing tool, and of course digging implement. It's basically a shovel shaped multitool. Everyone should have one for emergencies, home chores, or to take to camp. Anyone worried about "the new" cold steel, don't fret, these are just as good as they have always been.

Great little shovel
I've wanted one of these for decades, and when I saw that it now comes with a nice sheath, I had to get one. It comes fairly sharp, but remember that if it had a razor edge the edge would chip when using using it for its primary purpose-digging. To me, the chopping capability is for emergency use. If you are going camping, bring a proper chopping tool like a hatchet or machete/kukri etc. If you are planting a garden at your home, get a real shovel. This is an entrenching tool, bring the right tool for the job. I got it for the truck in case I get stuck, and for this kind of use it's great. I have no need of something that folds up like an E-tool for this purpose so I like the solid construction; no rivets, joints, or threaded sleeves to fail or loosen. I can clear snow or dirt, and use the edge to chop branches to place under the tires for traction. I have many Cold Steel products since the early 90's (when they were a super expensive knife brand using Seki steel from Japan) and they are very good even though a lot of their products are just stamped steel now. The handle on this is the same as on their "Bad Axe" and is very strong. And yes, it could make a pretty effective weapon in a pinch. Would recommend.

Decent truck shovel
Decent little shovel to have under the backseat of the truck in case you need to bury the evidence, dig out of a stuck situation, or use it as a weapon during the alien invasion.
