Great markers, fun art, highly giftable
I confess I got this mostly for the markers, although I do like Harry Potter. But I also thought that some adult coloring would make a great work break and help me get me out of a creative rut by working with some nice art supplies.First, the drawings. They are printed on page size a little wider than 8.25 inches and slightly less than 11 inches. The paper is sturdy and there is very little show-through, even after coloring over the same area with two or three layers of ink. There are six drawings; you get two of each and one is black, like a regular coloring book page, and the other is grey. The markers are chunky! At first I thought they were huge and heavy, but as I began working with them I found them surprisingly comfortable to hold and controlling the markers was easy. The white Illustrator markers have a thin nib and a brush, while the black Classique markers have a thin tip and a chisel tip. There are 10 markers in the set and one 0.3 art liner pen. I have a photo that shows the Illustrator, Classique, and a Copic marker side-by-side for comparison; the two styles of Spectrum markers are the same size but have different nibs. Before working on one of the pictures I used some Strathmore multimedia art paper and swatched all of the colors. There's a yellow, willow green, sandstone (beige), two pinks, two reds, and three greys. On another piece of multimedia paper I layered different color markers over each other to see how they would react.I am really pleasantly surprised at how well these markers blend! Yes, you can see some gaps where I lifted the marker, but for layering colors and shadowing the colors blend well together and do not bleed. This makes it much easier to control them. I'm sure some papers would be a problem, but there was little or no feathering or bleeding on the preprinted artwork that came with the kit, nor with my Strathmore paper color swatches. The colors that come with the set are a limited palette, but that ensures that all the colors play well together and eliminates some decision fatigue from having to decide on colors. In all, this is a great beginning set of markers and the coloring pages are a good way to try them out. The price seems stiff, but most art markers range from $5 to $7 each, so this really is a bargain. And you get the Artliner pen and pages to color. The packaging keeps the markers and pages in order, but it takes up a lot of room and it gets fiddly getting the markers out.The instructions are lacking substance. There's some general info about blending, and a QR code that is supposed to take you to more info. It did not work for me; well, it did bring up the Crafter's Companion website but only a sales pitch, nothing about coloring tips or anything else.I've included a close-up of my artwork so you can see some of the blending (shadows around the bird's toes). Happy coloring!Almost forgot! The smell isn't overpowering like some markers. It's there but not as strong as Sharpies.

Excellent quality supplies, mediocre instruction
First off, if you are looking for a great gift for a Harry Potter fan who loves to color, this will be well recieved.Spectrum Noir are hands down the best (or second best, depending on your opinion) alcohol ink markers in the illustration word. These are QUALITY professional supplies. Each kit comes with a very specific range of colors, designed to match the provided designs. The designs provided are printed on really high quality paper which receive the markers well. I had ZERO streaks, and almost no bleed through. Each design comes in a black and white and grayscale pattern.(I will note, I got the magical creatures set, based on wanting the marker colors, and didn't realize all the magical creatures were evil... I wanted a few cute ones too, so would probably get a different set next time.)Now, my complaint. It says it comes with step by step instructions, and includes a QR code to scan. When I scanned that, there was a single video, which was someone reading the included coloring guide (which just gives you alcohol marker basics, like how to blend and layer them). No instructions on how to color these particular creatures. There were also PDFs of "downloadable color guides". Except when I downloaded them, all it showed was a colored creature. It didn't have any instruction on which colors to go where, how to build up the shading, if you needed to blend colors, NOTHING. So there is zero information on how to color to match the actual harry potter creatures. I think that greatly lessens the value of this set.

Good deal at a sale price, not full price.
The markers are great, I have some of these already so adding to it with these colors was awesome. Only having 1 line art pen was a disappointment. Most of the cost I feel they are attempting to justify in the coloring pages, but honestly, in this day and age, nearly everyone can print their own. I would not buy this set at full price, but a good sale would be a good deal.
