A really big box of savoury noodles
Here we have a really big box packed with instant ramen. It's about the size of an old vinyl album case. The flavour is tonkotsu (pork stock) and shoyu (soy sauce), so the flavour is a little heavy, very savoury. This is my favourite flavour of Nissin instant ramen.I'll share with you my recipe as to how to make your ramen less instant but much more of a satisfying, nutritious meal:a) Line a serving bowl with iceberg lettuce. Broken into bits that are about bite size. If you've only had lettuce raw in salad, this might seem weird but trust me, it's nice. You're going to pour ramen on top then eat it a minute later, so it will still remain crunchy.b) Boil some water in a pan and stick in the block of instant noodles. When they are cooked, pour away the water (it's not especially nice and contains a lot of the fat used to make the noodles instant) and quickly run cold water over them briefly. This makes them all nice and springy. Put the noodles aside. If you don't want to wash another bowl, you can put them onto the lettuce but it might wilt it a bit in the meantime.c) Stick one or two [breaded protein things] in the oven. They can be - chicken dippers, breaded mushrooms, whatever. They usually take about 10-15 mins to cook, but read the pack. You could alternatively use some leftover Sunday roast, that works too. Yay, we added protein to the meal!d) Boil a new fresh batch of water for your broth - stick some veggies in, cut to roughly bite size. For me, what's in my fridge are usually things like - carrots, broccoli, beansprouts, chinese leaf, so there are some examples of veggies that work well. Yay, we added vitamins to the meal!e) When the veggies seem cooked but not overcooked, take them off the heat and add the powder / sauce sachet, and stir them in. Stir stir stir.f) Carefully pour the broth and veggies onto the lettuce, and then put your noodles into the broth. Add the chicken dippers as a side. You can put them in the broth but it can make them soggy, so it's up to you.g) Quickly add any other garnish you like - some people like chopped spring onion (I am not one of them). Some people like sesame seeds. Some people like an egg - boiled or even plain raw. Some people like a few drops of chilli oil. Some people like crumbled up nori (seaweed). You can add any or all of these as you like.Ta-da! You turned instant ramen into a respectable big bowl of ramen! Also, you now have a huge box of 30 packs of instant ramen, so feel free to mix up what protein, veggies, and garnishes to you every time you make a bowl. :)
