Again the modernisation of old England provide the underlying theme for a superb series
It is now 1925, the gradual shift in English society begins to gather ever more momentum. The Bentley boys are racing their cars, great aristocratic houses are struggling unless they are more professionally managed, the servants are seeking education and a life other than in service while the more society ladies are seeking their own purpose in life. The old ways and values do prove to be somewhat stubborn. There is an internal battle over the future governance of the village hospital between the more forward thinking family members and the Dowager Countess. Mary struggles with her feelings for Henry Talbot a commoner in comparison, whilst Edith struggles initially with her magazine editor an then later with the truth concerning her secret daughter Marigold.Great stories, beautifully filmed with moments of charming humour all included mean this last series will ensure Downton will be much missed,

Series ended prematurely!
As I reside in the United States and have a multi country DVD player and a former resident of Scotland, my wife is a ascot, new view a lot of series from the UK. The U.K. has such great series such as New Tricks, Foyles War and of course Downton Abbey, this excellent series creat by a former Monarch of the Glen actor. This series exceeds my viewing pleasure, it's a shame that it is the last series, it's that good, I believe it should have kept going to show how the UK and the privileged land owners and aristocracy had to change and adapt to changing times through World War II and on through the Cold War years. So to me personally, the series ended prematurely, perhaps a movie or special in the coming years is possible?

Downton....... An avid fan!!
Absolutely love it !!! From the very beginning I have been kept enthralled and totally entertained by the goings on both above & below stairs at Downton Abbey. Even after viewing each episode I still did not have enough and had to purchase each series set as they became available so that I could watch and re-watch over again...... Delighting in all of the highs and lows of the Crawley family, their friends and their servants. Beautifully portrayed in scenes shot in both stately home and studio. Superb Acting from all characters whom you cannot help to take to heart. Love them or hate them they all have their own individual persona, all equally believable. Sadly I feel my life will be a little empty when the final curtain falls!!!

EVOCATIVELY PORTRAYED, A WAY OF LIFE IN DECLINE
Others have said it all. Join them in saluting a series so memorably depicting rapidly changing times.1925. So many stately homes unable to cope, drastic changes needed if to survive. Even Downton is having to adapt, its staff now seriously depleted and further cutbacks required.Scripts, sets, acting all represent a precise eye for detail - the period brought so involvingly to life. No one-dimensional characters here, all struggling to cope with changed circumstances. (Arguably most moving is the plight of one hitherto not particularly liked.) Vividly depicted are the highs and lows, Maggie Smith's formidable Dowager a particular pleasure - especially when in full throttle.8 episodes - this the final series, with a Christmas Special to follow. (Although there is now talk of a film.)Generous bonus features, all of interest. One concentrates on the episode most ambitious and expensive to film. (Viewers will be left in no doubt when they reach it.) A documentary of almost an hour explores in depth the changes even evident between Seasons 1 and 6. The underlying lesson is clear - adapt or be left behind.Indeed so much here to admire, the worldwide acclaim fully justified.

Up to usual standard.
Have on DVD all series to 5 plus specials, for some unknown reason never obtained this series or subsequent special. However impending release of film required us to watch the whole lot hence purchase. Up to the usual standard. Most enjoyable.

High Society
It has taken me over two years to catch up with the final seasons and the finale and I loved every minute of the whole series. As ever great acting from such wonderful accomplished actors and Julian Fellowes is to be congratulated in putting together this ensemble cast and everything else that made it such a pleasure to watch each time it was aired. In season 6 i found emotion in every episode as things that looked like they may take a turn for the worse ended up very well directed in becoming so moving in the sense that happy endings were handed out all round.Period Dramas are a firm favourite of mine to watch and fill me with so much history of the life led by each character depicted here and as sad as I am that it has come to an end, i may start from season 1 again.Catching up with the Christmas special I will look forward to so very much and look forward very much to the next Julian Fellowes creation.

Just as good as the rest.
If you enjoy the ups and downs of Downton Abbey then you will like this video, you become absorbed in the story line and forget it is just that, as story out of someone's head. The series is well researched to give a true representation of the time period it is in; this along with the story line makes for a really good series that everyone enjoys.
