Hi Ryan, $539 is the updated price for the Shimano Talica 16II. This is the minimum advertised price per Shimano, and we are not allowed to sell it for less. The Talica IIs are very versatile - I own each of the 8 thru 25 reels. As such, I think the rod depends more on the application than on the reel. It is light enough to jig with and powerful enough to use for trolling and everything in between. I have used my 25 as a trolling reel on a 6 foot Cal-Star GFTR-760M (40-100) tuna rod. I have also used it on my Seeker Hercules SHS-70H - 7 (40-80) jigging rod. Again - it is for what and how you are fishing that should determine the rod, at least in my opinion.
