Hello, No the swivel is stiff and does not lock into place, Sorbo designed it that way so you can make adjustments when the tool is up on the pole, it requires a little bit of force, and once you set it where you like it stays when in use. Windows101 Seattle

Q: what kind of handle does it accept?

Mine goes onto my old extension pole I bought meny years ago from a janitorial shop

Q: Can I use a standard threaded pole? Why is this feature impossible to find?

No. This is held on with friction cone tip. The reason you can’t find a screw on version is because professionals don’t do it like that. They need to be able to switch between the washer and squeegee quickly. Cone adapters are available to convert a threaded pole.
