I replaced my older dash cam with this one because I read good things about the STARVIS 2 Sensors. My older dash cam didn't perform so well in low light and so far I am impressed by the video quality of the Viofo A229. I also liked the fact that this kit came with the CPL filter for the front camera. I wish there was an option to get a shorter interior camera cable. The cable is just too long especially since I am mounting the interior camera just about 7 inches away from the main unit. Luckily I had enough room in the housing behind my rear view mirror to store the extra cable slack. I opted for the hard wire kit to enable parking modes. The kit was straight forward and easy to install as my car had plenty of extra unused fuse slots that provided the constant power and accessory power that was needed. The only issue I had was that the power cable has a ferrite core that is located a few inches away from where it connects to the dash cam. The thickness of the ferrite core makes the cable hard to tuck into the car's headliner without making it bulge. It's a minor issue for me but hopefully your car has more room in the headliner to tuck this cable in. I did have a problem with the GPS module not not picking up any satellite signals. I submitted a ticket on Viofo's Support Center and got a response in a short time. I verified GPS settings were turned on and even tested the unit outside of the car to make sure the windshield wasn't blocking satellite signals. Everything was set up correctly so Viofo shipped me a new GPS module to test. I received the new GPS module within 2 weeks and installed it right away. The replacement GPS module worked and the dash cam immediately picked up satellite signals. Everything is now working! I would like to thank Annie S. from the Viofo Support team for her prompt responses and for the hassle free process of getting a replacement GPS module. Overall, I love this dash cam and I'm impressed by the quality of the STARVIS 2 sensors. Viofo support was also great! I am hoping this dash cam will last a long time without any issues.

After extensive research comparing various dashcam models on the market, I determined that VIOFO offers the best overall value. While the newer A329 Pro has been released in 2026, the A229 Plus remains an excellent choice and is still highly competitive. Upgrade Considerations: The primary difference between the A229 Plus and the A329 Pro is the frame rate (FPS). Unless you specifically need the higher FPS capability and have the budget for it, upgrading from the A229 Plus is not necessary. This model continues to deliver exceptional performance in 2026. Storage Recommendation: I highly recommend pairing this camera with an industrial-grade SSD (sold separately) for optimal reliability and longevity. Installation Options: The camera supports multiple installation methods, including hardwiring and ACC installation, both of which work seamlessly. If you choose the hardwire option, I strongly recommend purchasing the official VIOFO hardwire kit, as it includes a voltage sensor that protects your vehicle's battery by automatically shutting off the camera when it reaches your preset voltage threshold. Installation Experience: In my 2019 Toyota Corolla, the camera mounts discreetly and the installation process was straightforward. App and Connectivity: The loop recording feature is convenient, minimizing the need to frequently remove the SSD. However, the app connectivity has limitations. Since it uses Wi-Fi, you must disable CarPlay in your settings to connect to the camera. Additionally, video quality is compressed when viewed through the app, so I only recommend using it for adjusting camera settings if you find the on-camera controls difficult to navigate. Final Verdict: This is an exceptional product that delivers outstanding value. I plan to continue using VIOFO dashcams and will upgrade only when a significantly improved model is released.

The new Sony sensors in these cameras are much better than anything that came before. There is a lot that goes into how well a sensor performs, it's way too complicated to explain, trust me these are the best on the market. On playback there is a slight motion blur, but if you pause the playback the images are sharp and clear. I can read car license plates a couple of car lengths away, easily read street signs and mailbox numbers. All dash cams are a pain to hardwire properly, no more or less so than this one. In my 2023 Rav4 Hybrid I chose to splice the hardwire kit (sold seperately) into my moonroof power wires. Much easier and cleaner than trying to get down to the dash. Also keeps the wires away from the airbags. There are kits that let you plug into the cars front safety camera, but I would not use them. I think it foolish to mess with a car's safety systems. There is a slight improvement when using the CPL filters. The main unit comes with one and I'd recommend ordering one for the rear camera as well (check the VIOFO website). I'd also recommend buying the VIOFO brand memory card. In my case I have all 3 HD cameras. That's a lot of writing to the SD card, especially if you use parking mode. Lesser cards might work for a while, maybe a few years, maybe a few months. With the money I put into this system I want to be sure it works properly for years. What good is it to save a few bucks, and then when you really need it you find the memory card is corrupted and you can't retrieve the video? If hardwiring or using parking mode the accessory wiring kit is a must. In fact you can't use parking mode without it. The cameras are well designed and easy to mount. The only thing that could have been better is if the wire from the main unit to the interior camera was available in a shorter length, say 6". Mine is mounted very close to the main unit and the extra 2.5 feet of wire has to be coiled up and hidden. I actually shortened mine to 6", but would not recommend it. It did show me how carefully VIOFO designed their units. When I cut the cable to shorten it, it wasn't an ordinary TRRS cable, it was double-shielded. The video wire had it's own shielding foil and wire wrap, then it and the other two wires were wrapped with shielding underneath the PVC outer cover. Re-wrapping both those shield after shortening and soldering the wires was a pain, even for someone who knows what they are doing. But it was a great design choice. VIOFO also uses a capacitor instead of battery in the unit. So it can handle high heat without damage, and unlike a battery it will likely outlast the rest of the equipment. The app lets you stream live video to your smart phone, which helps when aligning the cameras. But it doesn't stream over the web. You won't be able to see through your cameras unless you are in the car and connected by wifi. But the app is very useful for setting the cameras, changing settings, and downloading videos. One last thing about those dots on your windshield. If you think you might scrape them off to make a window for the camera, forget it. Those shade dots are ceramic and can't be removed. All in all, this was the best dash cam I could find for my purposes, I love it and highly recommend it. P.S. I almost forgot, the external wiring kit also has a battery saver feature. If you use the dash cam in parking mode, it will turn off before your battery drains too low. There are a few settings for how low it will go.

I’ve been using this dash cam for over a year and have been really impressed with it. The video quality is crystal clear, the audio is solid, and the night vision performs well. The adhesive mount has held up without any issues, and the wiring is easy to tuck away for a clean setup. I power it through my car’s 12V outlet, so there’s no need for hardwiring. I searched up many dash cams for the "one". This probably the best one, IMO. I'll say this now, this is my first time owning a dash cam in general. Next I had this product for over 5 months now. I'll give a few examples of the good and few bad things about this product over the time I had it. This is from my own personal experience. U can see other reviews in YouTube there are many people who reviewed this amazing product The Pros 1. I bought it was for the great picture quality. It capture most things easily from the outside world pretty easily.From rear,front and inside, the only time I ever had a problem is in dark areas where there are few street light. But if u have a normal or bright head u can easily overcome this problem. The main reason was it can capture car plates,and faces if you ever have an accident. 2. It's very simple to install. All u need to do is figure out where to put it. If u mess up they give u 2 sticky tapes for each of the front, rear and interior Just in case u mess up like I did 😔😔😔. The small problem is the cables that come with it are long. If u don't have a big car you'll have to do some cable management, but it's not a huge issue. 3.the App connectivity is fast cuz it has it own wifi to download recorded videos from the camera to your phone. Depending on the 5 or 10 minute recoding loop videos it can take a few minutes to download.Dashcam is very simple for a slow guy like me to understand. There is a slight learning curve.You can choose to have Night vision on automatic when there is low light, adjust camera quality There are YouTube videos to help u out if you ever need help. 4. There are many kinds of accessories on the Viofo websites. For example cameras, Cables, SD cards for more recorded videos. The Cons 1.The only thing is that it doesn't come with a SD card right out of the box. When I bought it it was $450. I thought it will come with it. I paid $450 for it and it doesn't come with a small SD card like for real man. If you use but won't record anything which sucks. Im not sure if most or any dash cams come with SD cards. Make sure u guys plan ahead to buy the dash cam. In Amazon they have the Viofo brand SD cards which is a good thing. The one I bought was 512gb for $96. 2. To see recorded videos u have on the dash cam, it has to be on at all times and use the wifi to see on your phone. Which also means u have to be close to it. Also when checking the setting it will stop recording this bad if your driving it means u won't record when u fixing something in the app. In my opinion this is one of the best Dash cams u can own. Very good Value for money. If you low on cash u can have 299 with 2 channels, the front and the rear camera only. its cheaper for the same great picture quality. That a good deal. That's all ✌️ ✌️

I am amending my original 2-star review (below). After following the manufacturer's recommendation to use the included 12V to USB charge adapter, the camera works fine and has had no further issues shutting off suddenly. I had originally just plugged the USB end of the charge cable into a USB port on the car. I mean, I get it, but I think the issue should be corrected to work with any USB charger port. That said, the company took it upon themselves to contact me after my original 2-star review to make it right, so I give them the full five stars! >>> Original Review <<< First, my reason for buying this camera was to replace an older one from a different brand, when I noticed I was unable to get some of the video files to open for viewing. I have three of these identical cameras, and I was hoping to find a more reliable replacement, since I discovered the issue was happening with all three cameras! About half of the video files were corrupt and would not open on any platform. I don't want to worry whether or not video is being recorded and that it's going to be usable if needed. This one is great because you can turn on the wireless and share live or recorded video instantly, and share it with others. It also beeps constantly whenever the recording is not on for whatever reason. At least, that's the way it's supposed to work ... So far, after three days, the camera will shut itself off with no warning, as if I pulled the plug, but I did not. It has done this about five times. I am able to just turn the camera back on from the front panel, or turn off the car, and back on, and the camera would restart. Also, it has stopped recording suddenly and said the SD card needed to be reformatted. After obliging, it recorded fine again, after I wiped out everything else! Note the card was known-good and formatted by the camera before first use. Anyway, it's looking like I will need to return this one and maybe try another one? Maybe I just got a bad unit. I'll update this post with further experience. It's a dang shame it has all the features I want, but it's apparently not very RELIABLE.

I'm rewriting my review that was negative due to my own problems on my phone. I was unable to connect my dashcam with my viofo phone app due to having a VPN enabled at the time. DISABLE any VPN on your phone to connect your viofo phone app to the dashcam! This dashcam comes with a lot of settings. This will be my 4th dash cam over 3 vehicles. The videos captures from the front 4K camera are very clear. The rear camera provides decent image of activity behind your vehicle. The inside camera's wide angle lens and infrared light capture everything inside the cabin with low light or sufficient light. It will take some time of trial and error to go through all the settings and adjust everything to your particular style of driving and routine. The rear camera cable could be a little longer as it was almost not long enough to reach the placement of my front dashcam. I also purchased the bluetooth button and the hardwiring kit. I love the hardwiring kit. The kit was not very difficult to install, but learn as much as you can through video installations and forum descriptions before you attempt. Get everything you need ready before you start. The bluetooth button is helpful for enabling/disabling the wifi on the camera. I am finding it difficult to find a good place in my vehicle to stick the bluetooth button because every surface is not flat, difficult to access while driving, or will be accidentally touched while driving. Before you buy the button consider how your drive, where you can place the button, and surface of the area.

Before purchasing the Viofo A229 Pro, I compared many dashcams online and considered some opinions on YouTube, and I chose something that supports 3 channels with a parking mode, offers the best image quality available at present, and comes from a reputable brand with a solid track record, which is a little expensive side so it gives me confidence. I had also thought of one that could withstand high heat since summer temperatures can soar in California. Considering the parking mode and the need to handle high temperatures, I chose to buy the bundle deal that included the Hardwire Kit and Viofo's original 512 GB SD card. I thought it was a pretty good deal. Installing the A229 Pro itself was very straightforward. I just followed the instructions and had no problems. However, installing the Hardwire Kit was a bit more challenging. It required some knowledge and specific tools, like a circuit tester and a wire crimper. But in the end, I managed to get it all set up by myself. I was particularly impressed with the included static stickers. They stick perfectly to the glass, don’t peel off despite the heat or the camera's weight, and are easy to remove and reposition. One thing I misunderstood was expecting real-time remote live view capability during parking mode. I later noticed that only three brands offer this feature, and Viofo is not one of them. After setting up the A229, I learned about this limitation. In the future, I hope Viofo develops a product with remote live-watching capability while maintaining the same quality. Overall, I highly recommend Viofo, especially because of its excellent customer support system, as noted in other people's reviews as well. They have a dedicated portal that makes it easy to ask questions or place orders, and they respond quickly to emails. I have used up the included stickers by testing them in many places in my car, so I had to replace it with another strong sticker I had at home, but it melted and came off in the heat. But the original stickers that came with A229 don't melt in the heat. So I contacted customer service, and they provided me multiple replacement stickers, including static stickers, for free, only charging me $5 for shipping. Thank you so much!!!
