Does exactly what it says on the tin...
Great coverage of a league that has over 90 years history, and almost 50 teams that have graced the league from it's early days as a free state to this millenuim. The author has backed up his book by actually travelling to all of the 21 Airtricity grounds , gathering information on important stats like ground capacity, how to get to, and the price upon entering, whilst also adding a dollop of humour to his review of the club. There are no cheap shots (the author does have a bit of a love-in with all clubs, but slagging them off given most of them have limited resources wouldn't be fair) and there's a multitude of quotes from the who's who of League of Ireland football and some truly wonderful photographs.A must for fans of the League of Ireland, old or new.

Comprehensive history of the league of Ireland -club by club
As a long time fan of Cork City it's always good to see a book being published about the League of Ireland. It's even better to read it and find that it's quite good. This is definitely a labour of love from the author, a Waterford United fan. Over the course of a season he travelled to matches in all the LOI grounds. He uses this as a starting point for a chapter on each club, giving a comprehensive history of each of them as well as ground details. There is some great detail in each chapter. He has obviously read an enormous amount about the league and talked to people with a lot of knowledge of each club. There are also some great photographs reminding us of the great players who have played in the league. There is a separate chapter on the (many) clubs who are no longer in the league. It is typical of the sometimes chaotic history of the league that even since this book was published in 2011, Salthill, Mervue and Monaghan have left the league, Galway Utd have left and returned and Cabinteely have joined. One small complaint is that the book could do with a list of the trophy winners for each season. Maybe that will be in the second addition!
