I'm a size 8.5 usually. would a 9 work?

A 9 would work. I'm a 9.5-10 depending on the shoe. Because they are wide a 9 fits me snug.

Can you wear and use it on street on ice/snow etc?

If you are wearing them to go get something you left in your car, or to take out the trash or get the mail from the box, you should be fine. I wouldn't wear them on a hike up the side of a mountain or through the woods.

Would these be too hot to wear for Florida weather?

I wear mine all year but remember they are made for colder weather. Never noticed that they were too hot but they are comfortable.
