When its 'just you' or on the go
Let me start by saying I'm not a huge coffee drinker but when I do, I like proper coffee ( and just recently trying mycotoxin free coffee which is generally always ground).I had a huge cafetiere which hardly saw the light of day so it got me thinking of other alternatives as I'm the only one who drinks ground coffee. My partner likes the flavoured stuff. So after searching for a 'small cafetiere' I came across the travel range of different mugs. Now I don't really travel with hot drinks, I'm always the driver but an insulated mug with the capability of being a cafetiere is brilliant for me.Pros -- Its insulated so stays hot and has a lid.- Does its job wonderfully, it doesn't leak granules into the water.- sturdy and well built- lovely to hold- you can pick a colour- small enough to travel in a laptop bag and fits all together so no need to store bits separately- you can use it as an insulated mug without the filter, I also use it for herbal teas. You could probably use it for loose tea too- a great presentCons -- The cost, its relatively inexpensive really but if you drink a lot of coffee, you can get a large cafetiere for just less. But if like me you are solo or don't drink much, the above will be void and this will be perfect for you.- Its plastic. So if you are eco conscious you will want to look into sourcing a bamboo or metal one.- if the inner filter breaks I'm not sure you can get replacements but I haven't actually checked. So for me, I love it. It's a great cup and I've used it a good few times now. In one of the pictures I'm sat in the car waiting for someone to pick something up and loving my cup.

Fantastic device for the coffee lover
I've had a couple of these Cafetiere mugs, the previous one lasted for a couple of years and I took it camping several times as well as using it 2-3 times everyday, so it had a lot of use. Eventually though the small handle on the inner filter snapped off when I was removing it to empty the coffee grounds.I then purchased this one, and again it gets a lot of use, as it's perfect for me, working from home and being the only coffee drinker in the house. After 5-6 months use I noticed I had lots of coffee grounds in my coffee, and it turned out that the rubber seal on the inner filter had come away, and this was due to the two moulded plastic sections at the base of the filter separating. As these seem to be bonded together in some way during manufacture, they also retain the rubber seal in a locating groove, and now these had come apart the rubber seal had moved out of position when pushing the inner filter down.Although not expensive, especially for the amount of use it gets, I wanted to try and repair it, but didn't want to use any sort of glue as obviously that could contaminate my coffee in some way!I dug out my small box of nuts and bolts and my drill and managed to repair it :)Except for this minor weakness in the design, these are fantastic little devices for the coffee lover, easier to use and clean than a full size cafetière, they are insulated so keep your coffee hot for longer and are ideal for travelling/camping.UPDATE: I still love these mugs, however one of mine started making strange noises when filled with hot water and then I noticed that some water had got inside the mug, between the inner and outer parts.I still don't know how it got in there, as avoid submerging it into water, but I managed to separate the inner/outer parts ( see pics ), cleaned and dried it and then superglued it back together.

Quality...
Second item as I'm bed bound at the moment so an easier and probably cheaper option that using the dripper. I don't use this in the camper as waters at a premium when off grid but at home or local camping it's ideal. Sturdy, well designed...

Great idea, some flaws in the filter
Overall, this is a decent cafetiere-mug, with some nice features: the thermal insulation keeps hot drinks hot for longer, and the lid with sip hole helps even more. The lid makes it easier to travel with, but it must be kept upright. The main flaw, as others have pointed out, is that there is a purpose-built hole in the plunger through which liquid and coffee granules can travel from below the filter to above the filter, i.e. it lets more granules through into the drinking section than a standard cafetiere. I imagine this is to let the plunger be pushed down more easily. But no cafetiere does a perfect job at keeping granules locked away, and it's not a massive grievance to get a few extra granules in your drink. I'm not convinced that hole is really necessary, but perhaps it is.Suggested improvements: aside from removing that hole, it would be nice if the lid could be placed without pushing down the plunger so that you can let the coffee brew while travelling. As it is, before the lid can be placed, you have to plunge all the way down, preventing the granules from mixing with the water, or fully remove the plunger.

Impressed!
Got this today, want to take my own Coffee on Holiday without having to drag a Cafetiere in my Luggage.I love it. It seems to work perfectly. You need to personalise how much filter coffee you put in to suitIndividual taste.

Awesome cup….but, there is a learning curve
The first cup I brewed was horrible. However, after a few additional failures the correct amount of grounds was locked in. Works best with a medium grind such as Folgers Columbian…. My technique for brewing is based on an school method (Cowboy Coffee). First, add enough boiling water to cover the grounds to presoak for about 2 to 3 minutes. Afterwards, top off and allow to sit for another 2 minutes. Lastly, a tbsp of cold water to settle the grounds to the bottom of the cup before using the strainer…
