As you can see in the pictures the tool is used to seperate frames and lift the boxes. Experienced beekeepers will know how this works, but for new beekeepers this is its primary use. Bees will seal their hive with Propolis (little plant materials used like glue). This glue like material makes it very difficult for a beekeeper to open the hive and seperate frames for hive inspections and to harvest honey.
