MAXYOYO Japanese Tatami Mat, Rush Grass Portable Folding Mat 79"x60"x0.47"

Thinner than I would like but it is as advertised. The smell is strong but I find it to be a pleasant "hay" scent. It has worked very well on hardwood floors to cut down on the moisture problem.

This is a good thin Tatami mat. Folds up fairly small. Has a pleasant natural smell that fades a little overtime. Used for a few months and has worked well for me. I have used both thin and thick tatami mats and I think both are suitable for sleeping. A thin mat like this gets you extra portability, affordability, and space-saving. On carpeted floors it’s will do the job well.

We wanted to switch to Japanese futons after having some back issues. I still have my box frame though because we like our base/head board. So we got this to place between the futon and the box springs. It works perfectly! We used two for our king size bed frame. And when I have the futons out in the sun I sometimes will work from these mats. They are firm and well woven so no poky pieces of grass stick out. It is well made.

I am writing this review nearly one year later from. I had hoped that eventually this thing would stop smelling as terrible as it does, but… the smell is as bad as it was when I first took it out of the box. The odor coming off of this thing expands throughout my entire apartment, if there are open doors, the odor just carries from room to room. If you close the door, it is as if the odor balls up inside that room and when you open the door, it’s like getting punched in the face by stink. I have left it outside in the sun for weeks thinking it might off-gas or something. Nope. It smells like a hamster cage, and not pleasantly at all. This thing is not cheap. And considering the price point compared to how much this thing smells absolutely awful, it is not worth the investment

I was so surprised at how amazing this was. I decided to get rid of my bed and get this and a futon, and the combination between the two was definitely life changing! This never fails to make me drowsy when Im ready for bed. Something about the material and it's smell seems to work better than melatonin. Far better! It's easy to maintain, store, and has a great value for what it is and does. I've had this for years before writing this review. I really wanted to properly test it before reporting my results.

I bought this months ago because my senior dog could no longer get on my bed. This was the perfect solution, she walks right on it now. It does still have that grass scent to it, natural -not funky. It has a felt like material on the bottom side so it won’t scratch my floors. And the thick woven grass keeps ventilation so it won’t mold. Perfect queen size. I like that it came in 2 folding halves, making it easily moved.

I would not recommend buying this mat. I originally bought a tatami mat (twin/cot size) from this company a few years ago, and I thought I would be receiving the same good quality. However, when I was reading through the reviews on this product and the issue of "smell" came up, I thought it was an exaggeration. It has now been 3 weeks and it still smells so grassy for no reason. The mat itself is foldable but incredibly thin. If I were you, please get a thicker mat with less fragrance, even if you have to spend more. I wish I did.
