Amazing for the price
Background: I was tired of filling up 5 gallon cans of diesel every weekend to fill my tractor, skid, and mini. We had a fuel tank years ago but it was long gone. I ended up getting a 91 gallon transfer tank so I could load it into the bed of my truck when I needed to fill it, and then just fork it off and leave it at the property to fill up the equipment. I searched for a few weeks to find a solution best get the fuel out of the transfer tank. I didn't want to spend the $300 - 1200 on the pump systems I was finding. I also was really hoping to stay away from the push/pull type. Although the arm workouts would be useful... Anyway, I happened upon this Orion Motor Tech Diesel Transfer pump on Amazon, at less than $100. So I decided for that price to give it a shot. Here are a few true thoughts/comments on this pump. - It is surprisingly sturdy, heavy, and seems really well made. This included the hoses that came with. The cheapest feeling parts are the clamps and the screen filter. No big deal there right!? - Everything I needed was pretty much included in the box. I did not mount it or otherwise connect it to my tank. Just sank the intake hose in and fired it up. - It's fast. I filled approximately 15 gallons in my 65hp tractor in about 30 seconds. It may have been longer but I really don't think so. I was so impressed I lost track of keeping track. It's quiet too, if that matters to you. - I used yellow teflon tape on all the threaded connections. I had zero leaks and don't think I would have had leaks even without the tape. Although I still recommend the tape on threads for such applications. - I forgot to take pictures but basically it would have been slightly easier if the pump itself was attached to something. I just laid it on the tire. No problems. But I will mount it and possibly connect the pump directly to the tank as it will be much more convenient that way. Summary: I've only used it one time. I was really impressed with it after this first use tho. It worked flawlessly and quickly. I couldn't believe I was able to achieve my fuel transferring objective for under $100. Good stuff.

Great little pump
This works great. Super easy to use. We keep a car battery charged up for it and use it to transfer fuel from portable metal tank to the larger stationary tank. The hose is plenty long.

An excellent choice for light-duty pumping applications.!
This pump performs effectively in extracting diesel fuel from a 55-gallon drum. The hoses and pump appear to be of good quality. While the band clamps are not quite as robust, there are no leaks. I would certainly recommend this for tasks requiring light-duty cycles.

DIESEL PUMP FAILURE: ORION MOTOR TECH DISASTER ⛽💔 [⭐☠️☠️☠️☠️]
Jay Fray delivering the blunt truth about this Orion Motor Tech diesel transfer pump that completely fails to provide reliable fuel transfer or safe operation! Purchased this Orion Motor Tech diesel transfer pump expecting dependable fuel transfer for construction equipment, generators, and heavy machinery on job sites. The pump fails catastrophically with performance so poor it’s essentially unusable and potentially dangerous. Pumping performance is absolutely terrible with the unit either failing to prime properly, delivering pathetically weak flow rates making fuel transfer painfully slow, or stopping randomly mid-transfer requiring constant restarts. For equipment fueling requiring efficiency, this creates massive time waste. Build quality is embarrassingly cheap with plastic housing that feels like it will crack under normal handling or metal components that corrode rapidly. The pump construction inspires zero confidence for fuel transfer applications. Fuel leaks develop immediately at hose connections, pump seals, or housing joints creating dangerous spills and fire hazards on job sites. Any fuel pump that can’t maintain sealed connections represents serious safety risk. Motor reliability proves questionable with the pump overheating quickly during use, making grinding noises suggesting internal failure, or drawing excessive electrical current without delivering corresponding pumping performance. Hose quality included with the pump appears inadequate with material that may degrade from fuel exposure, kink easily restricting flow, or connections that don’t seal properly at pump or nozzle ends. The pump struggles with even minimal vertical lift or hose length making it useless for real-world applications where fuel sources aren’t at perfect height relative to equipment tanks. For diesel transfer requiring safety and reliability, invest in quality transfer pumps from established industrial equipment manufacturers rather than dangerous junk that fails immediately. Jay Fray verdict: Complete diesel pump failure with terrible performance and dangerous fuel leaks. Unusable for any legitimate fuel transfer application creating safety hazards!

Works good but a couple issues
Okay let’s start with the bad. First, the clear tubing that comes with it is way too large to fit in any gas tank. The fittings are 3/4 ID for a 1” hose. Speaking of the fittings the inlet and outlet is tapped for 3/4” NPT threading but too loose to seal which is why they include the orings. If you bought a regular 3/4 npt it would leak even with teflon. I used a 3/4” MIP to 1/2” barb reducer. The MIP is same thread just no taper. With tape it seals great. The black fuel line seems nicely build except the nozzle it comes with is too large to fit in any gas tank as well. I tried 3 different vehicles and a boat it didn’t go into any of them. Lastly if you let go of the handle the pump doesn’t shut off it continues pumping and sounds like it’s loading up really bad and you have to turn it off. The good is it pumps pretty fast even with 40’ of 1/2” hose. With 10’ of 1/2 hose it fills 5 gallons in about 30 seconds. I pumped roughly 80 gallons of gas with no issues. If I could do it over again I would buy just the pump and two 3/4” MIP to 1/2” barb reducers and some vinyl tubing and be able to use it for anything.

Tons of Potential
This pump is straightforward simple and very well built - but with the sloppiest tolerances. Perfect for a solid foundation for a good pump, if you are mechanically inclined and would be interested in improving on it before use. These types of things are my favorite, bad enough to be inexpensive - yet good enough in all the right ways, that with a little improvement, it could be made really nice. If you just plug it in, and use it - you might rate it poorly. The wiring is not very thick for DC like maybe 18 gauge, so running full speed on, I imagine that would max out the ampacity of that size wire - but they have to keep costs down, so I understand, and it's perfectly suitable for my use, because I put an electronic motor speed controller ahead of it, so it runs only about 1/3 intended speed, and third energy load, so this Guage wire works for my task, if you wanted to run it full bore, you should probably keep on a strict duty cycle. The biggest issues were the fittings - I can 100% confirm that both inlet and outlet are 3/4 NPT . - But the threads are cut super duper loose, fittings rattle all around, barely catch, and almost fall out, and I tried several, certainly the loosest of threads, but it's for sure 3/4 NPT... No amount of pipe dope or Teflon tape is gonna seal those as is. Good news, the solution is simple, JB weld in reducing bushings to 1/2 NPT and problem solved, now it takes regular yellow Teflon tape and seals well no problem.. The Best part is that it has a steel impeller head, Cast Iron housing and a simple internal overpressure bypass valve, a simple relatively large motor, and just 2 seals and 2 real bearings. Very nice, where it counts. It does have Nylon impeller blades - but every one you find would, probably or even worse plastic head or other internals, but I was going for a more extra durable, yet slower moving motor, so I cut my own Upgraded steel impeller blades to replace the included stock Nylon ones, it is now more robust but you couldn't probably run all steel at the full speed, I am run at a reduced speed, and full metal everywhere it can be, is durable for me. Just a simple largish brushed motor, 2 bearings, and 2 o- ring seals, and jb welded the bushings in. I fabricated a mate to an old CPU cooling heatsink and topped it with a dc computer fan to push away any heat from the now all steel impeller, it is running medium slow, it feels durable and reliable. If you just open the box and use it, you would expect maybe some issues, but if you are handy and like building stuff from close to good enough stuff, at an affordable price point, then this is a great platform and starting point. A very good but imperfect pump gets 5/5 - from me- with some effort you could truly craft it into something special for your project.

Fast and simple design, it’s a keeper
Bout this for a JD 1025R with a cab. The fill cap for fuel is recessed a bit and a long funnel would be needed to fill with diesel. I used a funnel but the fuel overflowed as there was no indication of when to stop. It went on my pants and new garage floor. This was the first time fueling the tractor for me as it was just purchased. I was determined to not let this happen again, so when I found this as an option I did some research and bought it. I have a few extra 12 volt batteries available for UPS systems, so I brought it out to the garage. The pump on this is controlled by a hand trigger. As it works like a standard pump at a gas station I figured it would be better than the funnel. That’s an understatement… it transferred 5 gallons in under 30 seconds. I’m keeping this.
