โLowe echoes the whimsy of J.K. Rowling withโฆcharismatic characters.โ โ Publishers Weekly โFans of Matildaโฆwill be happy to meet another spunky girl.โ โ School Library Journal Cat Campbell is a late-blooming witch whose magical abilities have yet to be mastered in this charming coming-of-age story set in the world of The Power of Poppy Pendle . Cat Campbell has had magical powers since the day she was born, but she didnโt always know that. Catโs mother believes magic ruins lives, and even as Catโs passion for magic grows over the years, no one suspects she has the gift. But she has indeed inherited the coveted magic gene of her famed great-great-grandmother Mabel, a discovery she makes in a most surprising way. And when she comes across a book called The Late Bloomerโs Guide to Magic , she finds the encouragement she needs and spells that actually work. Then the town of Potts Bottom is threatened by a notoriously feared witch, and Cat has the chance to help her family and townโand to prove herself in the process. Because, as The Late Bloomerโs Guide to Magic proclaims, โbelieving in your magic and yourself is half the battle.โ Review: Fun Read - The recipes in the back of the book are great! A Very Creative Heart-Warming Chapter Book
I enjoyed this even more than The Power of Poppy Pendle which I also loved. Cat is Poppy's daughter and, unlike her mother, wants nothing more than to have the gift of magic. There is a lot of humor and wisdom in the book, and the central message of "don't let fear stand in your way" is a good one, with Cat persevering despite various setbacks. The Tips for the Late Bloomer (e.g., "believing in yourself and your magic is half the battle") within the book are timeless and relevant for all ages, and the spells and recipes (shortbread giggle bars, raising your spirits cake, friendship repair hot chocolate) are easy and fun and brought a smile to my face.

Fun!
This book is part of a triology. It's good, but the story goes backwards, so definitely read in book order.๐

Daughter really enjoyed this and Poppy Pendle
My daughter loved the first book (Poppy Pendle) and loved this one too. Great for 2nd-3rd graders (if advanced a little) or most 4th-5th graders. Cute story and memorable tale for my daughter.

Great Book!
My 5 year old daughter loved this book. I started reading Poppy Pendle to her and we ended up buying Cat Campbell and Miss Mabel. It was the first chapter book she didn't want me to stop reading.

Fantastic book for both our 9 year old and 6 year old - Love it !
We LOVE this book - and its predecessor - The Power of Poppy Pendle. We have two daughters (now 9 and 6 and a half) who adore this book and the one before. We have read both as a bedtime story - with a strict "only one chapter per night" rule to drag out the story as long as possible. My eldest loves reading (and has re-read all of the Harry Potter books three / four times, as well as all of the Famous Five, Secret Seven etc) and is at an age where Rainbow Fairy books (although she did love them at one stage, and her little sister really enjoys them now) are a little too young for her. Reluctant to move on to books with boyfriends / family break-ups / mean kids at school, bullying etc we wanted something to hold her interest. She loves both of these books - as do all of the family. We hope Natasha Lowe plans to write more - please !
