Q: Is there a trigger mechanism, or is it just always on when connected to air?

There is a twisting mechanism that controls airflow. This allows for variable speed and shuts off the air completely

Q: I am looking to mount in a lathe quick change tool holder (any one know what the body OD is the blue part)

0.6250",15.87mm according to the mitututoyos, I would make a dual ring assymbly mounted to a tool post, bore the rings six .625 split one ended, drill and thread it to screw the rings closed further to grip the tool. But as always there's more than one way to go about things, I'm sure your could find a 1/2 inch boring bar holder and drill it ou55oversize and put the screws to it

I just returned one with the exac problem. Ive been working on and off for 50 years with small type air grinders but this jewel turned out to be a paste. I was Really disappointed that it didn’t represent its maker very well. One of these shouldn’t be seized just out of box, oiled and connected with correct air supply.

Q: is this any good for use on resin counter tops?

I would say it depends on what you're doing. If you're cutting the counter tops then no but if you're etching a design I'd say sure why not.
