Good telescope with not-so-good EQ mount
This is my first telescope, so my review is not based on any previous experience, and neither can I compare with others, so it is based in its own merit. This review is not based on what I was able to see with the scope, because all the information is listed and there is that much you can see with whichever scope you're gonna go with, and I don't think you can go very wrong with that. I will only discuss the quality of the mount and accessories.Well to start off, the mount is pretty sturdy, the scope itself looks and feels like high quality and never had a problem with it, so for that it gets at least three stars. The problem I find with this scope is purely with the EQ mount. This EQ mount can never be properly aligned with the north star, because the entire axis has a tendency to turn along with the scope, that is when I turn my scope in a certain direction eventually the axis will turn along with it, this is extremely annoying, and poor quality on Meade's part. I'm also not satisfied with the control cables, that is the RA control cable, I always find myself in the most awkward positions as it is too far away from me to reach, and when your viewing night sky objects you must respond within seconds because every second counts, so having to find your RA control cable is extremely annoying. But I think this setup is pretty much universal for EQ mounts, so I don't know how much Meade is to blame for this poor engineering. The viewfinder is amazing and I've had no problem with it (although took me some time to figure it out), the scope and mount pretty sturdy and I have had some pretty amazing views of orion nebula, Pleiades, double stars and more. It is also pretty easy to assemble (once you get the hang of it), and I can set it up in minutes. The downside is, that the axis with the weight on it is pretty heavy, so it can be pretty clumsy to shlep from trunk to wherever you wanna set it up. Overall I like this telescope, but I wouldn't recommend the EQ mount that comes with it, if you can get scope with a different EQ or altazimuth mount then go for it.

Great for kids probably 10 and under. I’d opt for better for older and adults
Got it for kids Christmas. Definitely can see the moon without issue. We have seen mars also. It gets a bit dark after that but you can see further. Very heavy and hard to pinpoint but worth the work. I would probably go with the more expensive telescope looking back just because I really want a high quality picture I’d fuerher planets without the dimness. I am not telescope savvy but after reading I guess there are other kinds that step up from this that use another light method. Anyways. We seen the lunar ewe mood eclipse perfectly. It was worth the price and it seems high quality for what it says it does. We are not all disappointed. Just didn’t realize we needed to spend a lot more to see further.
