true gmt kinetic movement watch with unique looks and high quality finishing
update 7/24--------I've had the watch about 9 months now and the bezel cracked. Not sure why, it shouldn't be that fragile. Anyway, to send it back (and pay return postage) you have to send the watch to IWSC which costs around $60 just for evaluation. ridiculous for a watch i bought on sale for $215.i also bought the yellow GMT version of this watch. It didn't work properly (crown stem problem) so i sent it to get fixed under warranty (watches.com is awesome btw, they sent it back for free). It broke again with the same problem after a week, will have to go back again.so, the mechanism and styling are good - but the watch quality and service/warranty repair sucks. would not buy a tsovet again based on this.Original review 10/23------------this was an unexpected find. i collect a lot of watches, and i have a number of higher end watches (a couple of omegas, ball, bremont etc) and i also like to check out lower end watches because you find some unexpected gems. this is one of them - it's quite a superb find and i'm really happy with it. let me expand...the way i found this watch is that i was looking for gmt watches that use the Epson PX85 kinetic movement. Epson is a subsidiary of seiko, and they have made this movement available in recent years to outside watch companies. so, we are starting to see it in cheaper watches. why is this a good thing? well, firstly it's a hybrid automatic / quartz movement so the accuracy is very high, you don't have to replace a battery, and the feeling is like an automatic on your wrist. secondly, it's a true travelers gmt which means that you can adjust the local hour hand independently of the minute and gmt hands. this means if i go from LA to NY, then i just move the local hour hand fwd by 3 hrs, when i go home i do the reverse. all the time, the GMT hand stays put and the second hand doesn't stop moving so i don't lose accuracy or the time settings in the other 2 timezones...now, a look on tsovet's website at the instruction manual seems to indicate this watch is a caller gmt - which has an independently settable gmt rather than local hand. it's not, thankfully, and they probably need to correct it because people will be avoiding the watch based on this erroneous information. i took a chance, even after reading the manual online because the PX85 is a true gmt. whoohoo i was right. thankfully they've added the power reserve button as an indented pusher (you can see this in the 3rd pic), much better than the oversize buttons i've seen on other cheap kinetic models. another big plus, you can barely see it.the watch is a good size. the bezel/case diameter is 42mm, the thickness is 14mm and on bracelet the watch weighs 202g which is not insignificant. it's got a sizeable presence on your wrist. i replaced the bracelet for day to day wear with a black silicone quick release 20mm one i had lying around - you can see it in the pictures. i think this watch will wear well with many straps. the weight of the case, without a band, is just 90g, which is really nice because on strap it weighs less than 130g... very pleasant.the finishing is decent. it has a coin edge bezel and angled edges on the lugs, giving it a modernist vibe. the dial is pretty original - no one is going to mistake this for a rolex homage. crystal and AR are decent, no issues there. the back has a logo - no real point having a caseback on this movement as it's basically a rotor and a couple of capacitors.are there any cons? nothing serious - but the dial legibility isn't perfect. the hands have a lume tip but otherwise are black which makes the center of the watch look empty and means that at say 4:20 you can get a bit confused about the hour and minute hands. in fact, nearly all of the "action" seems to happen at the outer of the dial, the inner part of the dial is basically black which is a pretty cool look but i wonder if they couldn't have lumed up more of the hour hand for instance.in terms of fit and finish, it's surprising high quality for the price bracket. the crown sticks out a tiny fraction of a millimeter, which is a bit annoying (yeah, i think i have OCD) but in compensation, it's a screw down so it's contributing to the high water resistance. bezel is unidirectional - i guess you could make the point that people migh use the bezel to do timing under water, but it would have been nicer if it moved both ways. not a big deal, the bezel action is precise and pleasant, if a bit stiff. nice clicking action, none of this silly friction bezel action of the seiko sk gmt series.so, all in all, i'm super pleased with this watch and i'm going to wear it as my daily beater. do note that i managed to get this for a bit over $200, and the usual retail on tsovet's website is $450 i think (with 20% discounts available depending on the promotion) so i also got it at a very good price. i'm glad i bought it and i'm looking fwd to putting it through its paces in a variety of settings. I think on bracelet i could even wear it out to restaurants etc, it looks stylish enough.---edit - a few extra notes:* the description for this watch is wrong. the title states that it is the "Smt-dw42 GMT" model, which is the one i wanted, and thankfully received. the description states "Not your typical diver watch. The SMT-ML53 Bluewater is a compelling, rock solid build of a timepiece." which is actually a different watch.* the legibility of this watch in low light is not great because the geometrical patterns of the markers and the hands (just the end is lumed) are easy to confuse.--------extra comments after owning the watch for about a month:* am really enjoying this watch - it sits well on the wrist and i've started just wearing it with the bracelet rather than any straps. the bracelet is actually very high quality, definitely a cut above, and i'm really enjoying it.* it gains about 0.3s a day, which is pretty spectacular accuracy. it gains about 10s a month or 2 mins a year. because it gains slightly, it's extremely easy to correct the time also - just pull out the crown all the way for 10s each month. amazingly low maintenance.* the watch just looks stylish, far more so than the price point would indicate. this watch just looks good in any setting, particularly on the bracelet. the geometrical shapes on the dial are pretty classic in design.* the legibility continues to irk me, i find it often takes me a couple of seconds to locate the minute hand. they really should make the color longer, it's too easy to confuse the minute hand with the 15 min markers. i might even get a watchmaker to touch it up a bit.* one flaw is tiny but annoying - the crown doesn't go all the way to the case, sticks out maybe 0.2mm from the side, you can see in the last photo. it means nothing, but watches are all about tolerances and this is off by a teensy tiny bit...* am loving the glass bezel. i think it's sapphire - adds a really professional look to it.

Will not stay charged
Great looking watch, but after less than a year the watch would not hold a charge despite being stored on a watch winder when not being worn.
