Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny [Blu-ray]

I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.
In the tradition of earlier Indiana Jones movies, it was full of fun and excitement. As someone who saw the first movies as they came out I especially loved seeing the real life aging of the core group of actors. Definitely a movie that I can confidently recommend to the 60 plus crowd. Anyone younger probably just couldn't appreciate it.

Fantastic movie, Lucasfilm is top notch stuff
They say it was just a money grabbing movie reusing old and spent ideas, don't listen to the bad mouthing critics, this movie is AWESOME!Also Mads Mikkelsen is in it, who doesn't like him? Put that guy in one room with Harrison Ford and you can't have a bad outcome!

A fine send off of Indiana Jones.
The Indiana Jones films have had mixed quality over the year though none have been bad (I would argue that, flaws and all, that even "Crystal Skull" isn't a bad film just mediocre). This fifth installment makes up for the lesser quality of "Crystal Skull" and, assuming this is the last film for Ford, is a fitting send off for his character. I've seen some folks complain about this being "woke" but they fail to account for the fact that the female characters have always been strong in the films. Going back to Miriam (Karen Allen) in the first film, the female characters have been as scrappy as Indy himself (with the exception of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" the second film in the series but, chronologically, the first since it takes place over five years before "Raiders of the Lost Ark").SPOILERS: When Indy and his compatriot Professor Basil Shaw (Toby Jones) discover the location of the Spear of Destiny, they try and retrieve it from the Nazi's. Shaw is captured and interrogated by Dr. Jurgen Vollmer a Germany physicist on a train carrying artifacts to Germany. Indy boards the train and has to get Baz released but, in the process, discovers that Vollmer has part of he Antikythera created by Archimedes. Believed to be able to be able to detect fissures in time, the device is incomplete. Indy and Basil race to obtain the device and get it out of Nazi hands.Jumping to 1969, we find Indy getting ready to retire and a little defeated; his son was killed in Vietnam and Miriam has left him after his death. When his god-daughter Helena Shaw, Basil's daughter, appears she attempts to retrieve the part of the Antikythera that Indy had. She's being followed by members of the FBI and thugs who work for Jurgen Vollmer who now works for NASA and was instrumental in getting America to the Moon.END OF SPOILERS:James Mangold takes much the same approach as Spielberg did with the previous Indy movies but he also brings his ability to craft an elegiac film as Indy isn't quite the same man he was when we last saw him in "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull". This is a much older, grizzled and cynical Indy than before. Helena coming into his life and the adventure brings him back to life providing some closure to his previous career. The stunts are spectacular and the visual effects top notch. The deagaging of Ford via CGI for the sequence set in the late 1940's as the war is concluding, is largely seamless. There are only a couple of shots that betray that this is the use of CGI to make Ford 40 years younger. Many old favorites from the previous films also show up though I don't want to spoil it for fans. These are largely extended cameos but it's nice to see these actors return to their roles for a final time. The main flaw of the film is that Mangold sometimes doesn't know when to resolve or move on from an action sequence. Some of the action sequences run a bit too long and the film could be trimmed about 15 minutes without much loss in terms of character development or the pacing. Still, overall, Mangold, does a terrific job. Like he did with "Logan", he brings a popular character into a different age and environment contrasting how they do in a world much removed from their past experience. Now, would could argue that Indy is too old to do some of the actions in the film but this is, after all, a fantasy film and it wouldn't be the first time that Ford's character defies the odds. As one character he played said ages ago, never tell him the odds.As a final film in the Indiana Jones franchise (assuming that Disney doesn't recast this which seems, at present unlikely, though that may change), this is a nice send off for the character. Those who complained about any 'wokeness' have completely forgotten the female characters in previous films and how well accomplished they were as well. Seems like everyone wants to attach their politics to films today. It's a pity because, if they set those aside, they might actually enjoy this final romp from Ford.

This was a good chapter in the book on Indiana Jones. I enjoyed seeing young and old Harrison Ford

Indiana Jones and the Failure to Stick the Landing
Indiana Jones is my favorite movie character of all time. This movie has some great moments, but it fails to make sense in multiple parts of the film.1. Indy knocks a Nazi out in a car and leaves the body next the vehicle. Two other Nazis immediately get in the car and don't notice the body, and two Nazis on motorcycles follow behind and also don't see the body.2. Voller (the main baddie) gets hit in the head with a metal pole while on a train going full speed and knocked off the train and survives without a scratch.3. Indy gets knocked out by a 115 lb woman, gets dragged back through time, then to another country, and doesn't wake up until he gets home.4. Indy gets accused of murder, but somehow that plot point gets no resolution and is never mentioned again.5. Somehow Archimedes tomb isnt discovered in a known archeological site, when it wasn't hidden very well.6. Indy claims Marion couldn't handle the grief of Mutt dying, but she implies Indy was the issue at the end of the filmThere are many more, but I've only watched it twice since it didn't leave the impression the previous films did. I don't hate the movie, but it's a pretty weak story with tons of plot holes, and too much CGI to make feel believable like the first 3 films. Crystal Skull gets alot of negative comments, but the story and action are pretty consistent and it doesn't sideline Indy for the other characters like this film does. The ending was lack luster and made no sense at all, while leaving massive story points like Indy being accused of murder not addressed at all.

Dial of Destiny 4k steelbook review
Quite a fan of the steelbook design for this movie, leagues better than any of the standard 4k artwork and I was massively impressed with the picture quality of this disc, there’s been some grain added to the picture that isn’t too heavy but adds to the picture nonetheless and black levels are dealt with beautifully, could see shots better than when I saw this movie in the cinema even! Even if you’re not a fan of this movie, this is a disc I recommend grabbing for the picture quality alone, I don’t think you will be disappointed!
