Seagate Expansion 18TB External Hard Drive HDD - USB 3.0, with Rescue Data Recovery Services (STKP18000400)

Bought it to use as a Time Machine backup replacement for my iMac. Easy setup and reformat, like plug and play. It's been almost a month and no glitches. This model seemed to have less bad reviews then the other capacities or even the WD Passport drives.

Worksas expected.

No issues at all — the drive performs as expected, averaging around 150 MB/s transfer speed. I bought this as a gift for my brother to back up his computer, and it’s been working perfectly so far. Reliable, quiet, and plenty of storage for the price.

This is a review for the Seagate 6TB desktop hard drive. The portable models I've had before (4TB) have been virtually silent, but this one is not. Immediately upon plugging it in for the first time, it starting making a fan-like whirring noise that has been constant. You'll notice it if you're in a very quiet location, but some moderate ambient noise in your environment would be enough to mask it. The noise is enough for me that it's not going to be acceptable leaving it connected constantly, but that's OK, I can demote it to an emergency backup drive. Noise aside, performance has been great so far. This is my fourth Seagate drive (previous ones have been the portable ones). My oldest one is about six years old. They've all held up well so far. I format them into 2TB partitions for Linux and it works great.

I have 2 of these. One as a backup for my Computer & another to record OTA TV with my OTA DVR. They both work great.

I bought this drive to use for File History (Window's version of Apple's Time Machine). Purchased this in December of 2022, and the only use the 6TB drive got was as the File History backup drive. Yesterday I received a notification that File History hadn't run in 10 days. So, I checked and learned that the disk drive was no longer visible to any of my file management programs. Neither was it visible in the File History setup. Poof. File History gone. Could I bother working with Seagate to try to recover the files? Possibly. In my case, I deemed it a waste of time. File History is merely one of four different backup routines I run. I've got backups of all my current data. True, if the occasion arises where I wish I'd had an older version of a file, I'm out of luck. Bottom line, I can live with the lost drive and investment in it. I replaced this with a Samsung SSD. I'm losing 2TB of potential backup, but I can live with that for now. For what it's worth, this is the second Seagate Drive that has suffered this fate. I won't buy another Seagate product. If you are considering using this Seagate Drive, I suggest you have alternate methods of backup or storage. If this is your one trick pony, you may end up regretting your purchase.

I received an open package. The hard drive makes a very loud scratching noise even when nothing is copying or being read.

Makes a beeping noise that scares the cats. Worth it for that alone.

PRO: Plug & Play Immediato: Su Windows è stato riconosciuto in un istante. Basta collegare alimentatore e USB e si è pronti a copiare i file. Velocità USB 3.0: Nonostante sia un HDD meccanico da 3.5", le velocità di trasferimento sono costanti e molto buone per il backup di file di grandi dimensioni o video 4K. Silenziosità: Anche durante lunghe sessioni di scrittura, il disco non scalda eccessivamente e il rumore di rotazione è appena percettibile. Design Pulito: Estetica minimalista con una trama a diamante che non attira le impronte digitali. CONTRO: Alimentazione Esterna: Essendo un modello da 3.5", necessita obbligatoriamente della presa di corrente (alimentatore incluso). Non è pensato per la mobilità estrema, ma per stare fisso sulla scrivania. Formattazione per Mac: Per usarlo con Time Machine su macOS è necessaria una veloce inizializzazione (operazione da 30 secondi, ma da tenere a mente). Considerazioni personali: Se cercate un magazzino digitale sicuro dove depositare i vostri file senza pensieri, il Seagate Expansion da 6TB è una scelta obbligata. Il rapporto capacità/prezzo è ottimo e la garanzia Rescue è quel "bonus" che speri di non usare mai, ma che ti fa dormire sonni tranquilli. Consigliatissimo per backup domestici, archiviazione media e smart working.

Zocht een backup drive voor relatief weinig geld, maar van een bekend beproeft merk. Betrouwbaarheid boven snelheid of vormgeving. Ik kreeg wat ik verwachten , en zou er gerust bijkopen bij behoefte aan meer opslagruimte.
