One for nearly all pocket blade service/hone tool.
Solid, well thought out and designed. Has pretty much all you need to service most bladed articles that have dulled or lost edge. Perfect daily carry.

Great easy to use portable blade sharpener
Carbide can really take great amounts of mettle off the knife blade for aggressive sharpening or straightening of the blade. The ceramic edges are great at smoothing and putting a final edge on the blade. Have two, one permanently placed in a carry pouch. Highly recommended.

Buy this, not cheap imitations!
The Blademedic will never let you down, but its tungsten carbide sharpeners are extremely rough on steel and over time can take quite a lot off your precious knife. This is why I use either the white ceramic block (1000 grit), or its 'V' ceramic blades (also 1000 grit), or if sharpening serrated edges, the diamond taper (600 grit, not '1000' which I mistakenly said recently.Size: Smaller than many pocket knives at 3.9 x 1.25 x 0.45 inches (closed) and with a weight of 3.3 ounces, it is an entire sharpening kit that fits conveniently in your pocket. The tapered diamond sharpener clicks firmly back into its 10cm body using a magnetic block, about 1cm square. When extended the diamond taper also is secured by a similar magnetic block, roughly same measurements, 1cm square. These magnets are really useful to keep the taper from wagging like a dog's tail. Some notes:The ceramic pull-through sharpener is used as a finishing step to the carbide sharpener to finely hone the blade. It can also be used on its own to “touch up” relatively sharp blades. Again, only three to four strokes are necessary. The pull-through sharpeners are simple to use. You simply place the blade in the sharpener and pull it through with a little downward pressure applied.Beware the tungsten carbide blades because they are hard on your knife and can take quite a bit of steel away after only a few sweeps of the blade.Unless you have an old dog of blunt knife that needs to get sharp again, then use the tungsten carbide blades, but finish off with (2) the 600-grit diamond taper and finally (3) either the ceramic blades or that lovely ceramic block on the top. Note that the ceramic block is triangular-shape, enabling serrated blades to achieve a razor sharp edge. It’s designed to get into even the smallest serrations. It can also be used on its own like a benchstone. I highly rate it.Lanksy's Blademedic is reassuringly weighty in one's hand. Note it has torx bits for undoing the sharpener for cleaning or whatever. The Blademedic is an inexpensive, practical knife sharpener that groups several different knife sharpening tools into one. It is convenient to carry and easy to use so you never need to make do with a dull knife. Its cost is great value, it is highly durable, and nicely pocketable. Hopefully I'll be more careful and not lose this one. This is quality. Quality lasts long, and in the long run makes for great value. Why buy cheap ineffective knockoff when you need to cherish your knife? This alone is good enough reason to buy what is quite the classic sharpener.5 / 5 Brilliant good value!

An effective knife sharpener with tools for all blade types
Lansky is not a name that has a long association with the production of outdoor knives or, as in this instance, a suitable sharpener which they choose to call the Blade Medic. The tool shares some of the appearance of a pocket knife and, as with most of them, can be suspended by a lanyard if you wish and used as part of an outdoor kit for use whenever needed. The Blade Medic is fairly unique in providing four tools in one, of which some are fairly standard and found on other sharpeners, but not all of them; one is included on a similar tool but the fourth is an exclusive. They comprise a standard coarse tungsten set of crossed blades, a fine ceramic pair, a diamond-coated tapered rod tool and a ceramic shaped bar. The first two are intended for use with standard blades whether straight or curved and the remainder with serrated ones. Obviously, if you have a blade that is part-serrated, you would used the two sets of tools on the appropriate portions. Two or three stokes with the relevant tool will usually suffice. If a blade has a reasonably good edge, you would not want to use the tungsten sharpeners but just the ceramic ones until the edge is honed to the correct degree. If there are light nicks, or the edge would barely cut butter, then use the tungsten blades to produce the beginnings of an edge and follow up with the ceramics. With serrated blades or blade sections, use the rod to produce the edge, serration by serration trying to get the best fit possible each time, and follow with the ceramic bar to hone them, again one at a time. There is a more general use for the rod tool and that is the conditioning of a smooth blade by drawing the tool down the blade's edge at a smooth consistent pace, in much the same way as a butcher's steelalthough it is much smaller. As a tool with some weight, the body is all-metal, it will probably be more stable in use than lighter plastic-bodied alternatives which can jump around, rock from side-to-side or rotate when you are trying to use them; that movement can destroy an edge rather quickly. If necessary, it could also be clamped in a vice for absolute stability. In terms of price, and for the number of tools offered, it provides excellent value and could rescue many a blunt knife for a price far lower than a replacement. The product card includes a usage guide for the tools provided plus a translated version in French, Spanish and German and it may be worth keeping for an occasional reminder, especially should another person need to use it.
