not sure what purpose they actually serve though.

I have a 45kg golden retriever that has worn away the skin on his elbows leaving quite a nasty weeping abrasion on one. He is getting on and spends far too much time lying down on the patio slabs :( I have tried many things to protect the elbows: creams, surgical stockings, cohesive bandages, etc and all failed - nothing stayed in place long enough to help.I was *very* happy to come across this product - it actually works. The sleeves are padded in the right place to protect the elbow, the elastic strap means they don't come off.My dog wears these 24/7 and is finally getting better.2XL fits a 45kg golden retriever at maximum strap length (it's elastic and there is a lot of stretch after that) and is perfect for 24/7 wear.If I had to criticise this product I would say you might want to put a stitch in the strap if you do not use it at close to maximum opening as you might otherwise have 6 inches of loose strap that could snag, but really it is not a concern.Excellent product - get several to allow for washingRecommended

You get two sleeves with padded elbows made in a polyester fabris with cuffs. Over the back is an elasticated strapping with a plastic click finding but once you have tightened it up to fit your dog your left with a lot if elastic left and nowhere to thread the loose end into. Would have preferred not to gave this closure and just have elastic as your dog cannot roll on their backs without discomfort
