Straight from France Genuinely French Instant Chicory Coffee Substitute | Non-GMO certified, caffeine free French chicory root powder, instant coffee substitute with prebiotic fibers, 7oz glass jar

I have been trying to find coffee/black tea alternatives for a while and this was amazing and super easy. I loved the taste and I was able to drink it over ice with milk and cream. It tasted really great and I'll be getting more in the future.

I first tried chicory "coffee" at a restaurant in Staten Island, a few months ago. I'd eaten chicory in protein bars and other foods, but never had it as a beverage. I rather liked it and decided to start buying some to make at home. As with coffee I make at home, instant is important to me. I found this and also another brand that uses a tea bag system. However, the tea bags have to steep for 5-7 minutes while this Straight From France product is really instant, in that it dissolves once hot water is poured over it. This is therefore very easy to prepare. I scoop some into a cup, add some date syrup, and pour boiling water over it. Then I add some milk. If I want some caffeine, I add a small amount of instant coffee. By itself, this product does have a slightly more bitter taste than instant coffee. But if you are okay with adding a little bit of sweetener, all of that gets neutralized. Then it is very pleasant-tasting. I also like this because it does not bother my stomach. And because it has no caffeine on its own, I can drink this later in the afternoon or evening.

I've tried chicory powder before but this one is the richest tasting and so smooth. It has a toasty, slightly sweet flavor, with no bitterness. If you want to reduce caffeine in your hot beverages you might enjoy this. I use two teaspoons to a mug of hot water and add a little creamer and either sugar or agave nectar, but you can also enjoy it's mild, almost nutty flavor on it own, too. This does not irritate OAB like coffee or tea does, in my experience, so that's a bonus. I will buy this again.

I’ve been diagnosed with long covid and POTS and need to cut back on my caffeine. Heard this was a great option but I was very hesitant. I’m quite pleased with this purchase! IMO it taste better than coffee. Took me sometime to get the measurements right but 2 1/8 teaspoon for each cup seems to work well for me. I add frothed milk mixed with Laird mushroom powder creamer and it’s quite lovely. Highly recommend. obviously still not coffee, but still satisfying to maintain the behavior without the stimulant.

I have been drinking espresso since I was 15 and it’s probably my only addiction. I happen to remember chicory saw this bought it just tried it and it hasn’t killed me yet. Very grateful I can’t find any alcohol in it either which is really handy because I can’t have that I’m allergic to it. Apparently requires no refrigeration at least not stated on the bottle. I had somebody with better eyes read it. I just poured an oat milk and add Stevia then it has to be refrigerated if you don’t drink the whole thing at once. I only Buy Organic Chalifa. Oat milk.. Naturally a bit sweet you may not even need the Stevia. And I drink it cold.

I liked good Chicory – started to drink it in addition to coffee. I recently compared these 3 versions side by side: (A) Worldwide Botanicals Organic French Chicory Root (ground, brews like drip coffee) (B) Straight from France chicory root powder (soluble) (C) Straight from France French chicory extract, liquid I was already drinking (B) for a year, and it is great! It replaced for me the equally great Leroux Regular Instant Chicory 7oz/200g (it was cheaper but disappeared from Amazon offerings after August 2025 – perhaps, tariffs related?) I found (A) is as good or better than (B), but it tasted different - some bitter notes over a fuller flavor gamut! However, I was unimpressed the liquid product (C) which is distributed by the same company as (B). It is a completely different version of chicory, but unfairly bundled together with (B) for Amazon reviews. The liquid chicory version is a fairly bland at the recommended serving amount and even twice as much, but it tastes progressively sour if it is diluted less to maximize any flavor. I would also mention that I also previously tried nuKAF by Gourmanity Instant Chicory Coffee Alternative (Brews like regular coffee) and didn’t like it. In conclusion, (A) is 5 of 5 stars, (B) is 5 of 5, (C) is 1 of 5. I like to alternate (A) and (B) but I am not sure I have a reason to give more than 1 out of 5 for (C). (C) is not flavorful and not economical. Note: Since (B) and (C) are bundled together for reviews (very misleading!), but I can only submit one review, I am averaging 5 and 1 to give 3 out of 5. But see which is which above!

When I stopped drinking coffee, I wanted something to replace it with and this is perfect. It's got the same appeal as coffee for me (minus the caffeine and other elements that decrease LES pressure) and it's a great substitute. However, and this is important, you really have to put one of those silicone packets in the jar once you open it because it attracts moisture and becomes solidified in the jar. One little packet takes care of this issue!
