JONARD TOOLSMS-836 Mid Span Slit & Ring Tool for RocketRibbon® Cable (11.6 mm-22.6 mm)

I am what you call a novice fiber splicer, but I do coordinate a lot of production splicers. We have probably ran into every kind of fiber manufacturer out there. I am continuously borrowing out this tool to production splicers because they don't ever seem to have the correct mid sheath tool which can cost upward of 1000.00 dollars or more. My biggest problem with this tool seem to be getting it back from the production splicers before they leave town.The only problem I have had is sometimes the latch will pop open, I'm sure this is because of the way I'm holding it. Anyhow for the price no splicer should be without it because it sure can come in handy. Just make sure the tube is snug but slides smoothly and apply continuous pressure while holding the tool closed, "don't trust the latch".

This tool is a lot more practical than the combo one due to its bulkiness.I have bought 4 of these exact tools so far for myself and team. Might buy another just to set up a spare tool kit as we do a lot of fiber to the home work for a couple different providers.I have used it well over 200x and no sign of any blade wear issues but it is only the fiber buffer being cut so it should hold up for a long time. I use another Jonard tool in tandem with this to cut the ring.

I have tried many different brands. None of them are as consistent as this one.

I bought this to replace the Miller msat-5, which I could never get to work that well and cost me countless time over the 3-4 months I used it. This tool has probably saved me close to an hour a day over the Miller. I haven’t seen it cut into the fiber yet and does a very clean job of midspanning the buffer tube. I’ll be ordering one of these for all our personnel going forward.

Very nice slitter. However The locking mechanism tab is a real bitch to get open sometimes they should teek the design a bit. Overall, it's my go-to

Ordered these for my boyfriend & he loves them. He said it makes his job so much easier and they are working great. The quality seemed good to me & so far they are holding up to his high volume usage.

I work for a major communications company and open mid span cables of all sizes known to man, with plenty of "working" fibers, and have run into smaller tubes that were difficult and precarious to open with larger slitters, especially older gel-filled cables with tube degradation. I have only used this 3 times for these situations and this slitter worked flawlessly. Made my previously stressful situations a breeze. I highly recommend this product.

This tool is helpful but you must be careful not to bend the tube and break the fiber

If you are using this product to strip cable be warned that it will cut into the insulation of the conductors inside the cable.
