Giani Nuvo All-In-One Cabinet Paint Kit (Celadon Cove)

Edit : 4-2020 After a couple of years in the my kitchen , I decided to pay my rennovated master bath cabinets with this nuvo hearthstone . Just wanted to say, I still love the color and still love how is it compliments the bright, calm paint I have in there. ----++++ II have used this on a couple of different pieces and it's been about a month so I think I can comfortably write a review for it. I recently did a kitchen renovation - Had a red walls and the ugly generic oak colored cabinets. I wanted to brightened the room and use very light grey for walls and when I was shopping for cabinet paint, I ran across this on Amazon. I figured this hearthstone color would best match the wall color I was going with. This paint is really good considering its price point and how much it covers. I used all of it for my kitchen project as I was doing both the upper and lower cabinets. I sanded the upper cabinets and did the vinegar/water mix for the bottom set. I did not want to use TSP. In hindsight, I should have sanded all the cabinets. After using them for a month now, I noticed that the sanded cabinets was able to grip on the paint much better. Also it was easier to paint the sanded cabinets; the bottom ones tended to form those tiny bubbles much easier. Also scratched the bottom ones on a couple of occasion with finger nails or pesky little pointy objects like forks etc...while opening them. I touched them up and all is good now, but I really do think this is due to me not prepping it correctly. Some of these tips may have been already given by other reviewers but being this was my first cabinet pain project, these were most helpful in completing the project i.m.o. - Unscrew the bottom cabinet door sets first - Paint one side of them - Then unscrew the top cabinet sets (this allows for about an hour dry time for the first side coat) - Paint first side of top cabinet sets - Turn over the bottom set and paint them (this allows time for top set to dry) - Put second coat on top cabinet set - Then paint other side of bottom set (you get the point- This allows you to work continuously without having to wait for dry time) - Always sand i.m.o or use TSP - These cabinet i Had were 11 years old and the vinegar trick cleaned them good...free of dirt and grease etc... but I feel like it didn't adhere to the paint as well as the sanded ones - They look identical, but I am talking about when you really use them and make contact with the paint afterwards - Stir the can of Nuvo paint and mix it well for a good 5 minutes. - The roller that comes with the kit works ok. Make sure not put too much paint on it, especially at the beginning. It will form bubles and creat that "water spot" look once those bubbles pop and paint dries - I have found that the sponge roller made for cabinets and smooth surfaces work a little better with this. If anything you can do first coat with the one in the kit, and put the top coat with the foam. Also for corners, the brush work ok, but I have found those black foam ones are easier to work with. While I was at it, I added a rolling island in the kitchen, and the bamboo color stuck out like a sore thumb. So I painted it with the same Nuvo paint. Looks great and matches well. I plan on painting another old cabinet we bought from someone online. Definitely will be sanding it before putting this paint on. All in all, I am satisfied with the product and this color went really well with my new wall color.

I recently purchased the Nuvo Cabinet Paint Kit in Cocoa Couture and I am very pleased with my purchase. So far, I have repainted my bathroom vanity and this paint changed the looks of it dramatically. The vanity was once outdated and somewhat boring, and now it looks like a brand-new vanity. I added silver handles to all the drawers and cabinets and that really made the cocoa color of the paint “pop”. I am currently working on painting my kitchen cabinets as well. The Nuvo paint kit includes two paint cans, both one-quart, a small paintbrush for detailed areas, a roller handle and two brush rollers, a stir-stick, and a how-to booklet. This paint goes on with ease and covers very well. I used two coats of paint on my bathroom vanity and haven’t even used half of one can yet. I believe I will have enough to paint my kitchen cabinets as well as the vanity in our guest bathroom. When I first received the kit, I did not realize that I would need a stripping agent for the cabinets. After I read the instructions, I learned that they recommend the use of TSP (Trisodium Phosphate Substitute) to clean the cabinets before applying the paint. I purchased Klean-Strip no rinse TSP from amazon and it worked very well. I simply diluted the solution in warm water and used it to clean the cabinets. It takes a few minutes to try, then you use a dry cloth to remove any residue. After using the TSP, I used a 300-grit sandpaper to lightly sand the cabinets. I highly recommend this step because the cabinet paint will show any blemishes in the wood. For example, the clear coat on my cabinets was not applied smoothly, there were some areas where you could see some drip spots, and the paint made these spots more noticeable. After realizing this, I resulted to sanding the cabinets more thoroughly to ensure no blemishes would be seen. This paint dries very quickly. I painted my bathroom vanity in only a couple of hours- I let the first coat of paint dry for an hour before applying another coat. After only 10-15 minutes of applying paint the cabinets felt dry to the touch. A kitchen or bathroom cabinet make-over can easily be done in a single weekend! I think it would even work well on other wood furniture such as desks, dressers, tables, etc. as it is very durable. I accidently scraped the vanity with one of the drawers and it did not leave a mark.

So the kit comes with 2 quarts of paint, a roller, 2 roller covers, brush, and instructions. Painting cabinets gives me anxiety and I must have read 500 reviews before I pulled the trigger and bought this. So glad that I did. There’s so much less prep with this product (compared to other methods) and the end result is amazing. The paint goes on like butter and it goes a long way! 2 quarts was more than enough to paint my medium sized kitchen (18 cabinets/drawers and front of breakfast bar) with 2 coats. Love that it included the tools as well! This color is really nice and both my (overly judgmental) teenagers said that it made our kitchen look more updated! My 20 year old white cabinets were structurally in good condition but had some worn areas around the knobs and at the sink from general wear & tear. This was an affordable alternative to replacing all my cabinets and hopefully will give me a few more years of life before I have to bite the bullet and replace them. Well worth the money. The only thing I could possibly find fault with is their estimate of 8 hours. It took me 16, but I was OCD about the prep part (cleaning and light sanding) as I’ve goofed in this area in the past and learned my lesson. Rule #1: never paint over dirt and sure as heck don’t paint over grease. With proper prep, you’ll have a fabulous end result. Would buy again, and again, and again. Great product and great value.

Omg, where do I start? I got quotes from several contractors for this job with costs ranging from $3,000 to $6000. Finally, I decided to do it myself, and it was the best decision I ever made. I will recommend buying a sander and sanding the cabinets first. It’s not required, but it will definitely help with the finish look with all the grooves after its painted. I took on this project because when I moved into this unit, the cabinets were damaged with stains and grease and I could not get it clean. I use multiple degreasers and I hired professional cleaners to come in and try to clean the cabinets. They have even steam the cabinets and nothing could get the grease in the stains off the cabinets. So finally, I decided to paint it. Gray was not my first choice however, I could not find the navy blue I wanted, and so ultimately, we decided on a light gray, which I do not regret at all. Application was super easy. The two of us tackled this project in less than three hours. I will recommend 2 to 3 coats for better coverage. I also will recommend not putting a glob on at a time but instead apply thin layers, making sure that your brush strokes are uniform. The texture is perfect and the finish is also perfect not too shiny not to Matte. This is a perfect kit that provides you with all the tools you will need to get the job done. All you really need is tape and tarp so that you don’t get paint everywhere. I cracked my window and the paint dried super fast which made applying a second and third coat so easy and fast. And lastly, the amount of paint they provided in the full starter kit was more than enough. We only use one canister and that canister still has paint left in it. The other canister has not even been touched. So I will be keeping them for future touchups.

The paint is pretty amazing – flows on like nothing I have ever used. However, I’m not sure how well it will hold up – like other reviewers, it does seem delicate to abuse, and you might need to touch it up if you are rough on things. I’m all about saving money in our “new” money pit house, so I used the paint on a cheap, small press-board bath cabinet instead of replacing it. I did remove all of the drawers and cabinet doors first, as it was a very tight working space. I also used the provided sand paper to de-gloss everything, not just the side panels. I was not very impressed after the first coat, but once the second coat dried, the cabinet was completely transformed. So much in fact, I decided to keep the old cultured marble counter top – the new color totally made it pop. I was going to replace another bathroom’s identical cabinet, but the first one turned out so well, I painted the other too. Some things to keep in mind that I learned with this project: 1. I cannot imagine using this color (cocoa couture) on an entire kitchen. In my humble opinion, either white or black would be the only colors to use on that large of a space. This color did, however, work beautifully for small bathroom spaces. 2. If you have real wood grained cabinets (not foil/laminated or press-board) and just want to darken the shade a bit or freshen it up, I would recommend the extra effort of using gel stain instead of this product. With this product, absolutely no wood grain will show through – it completely masks the previous color. If you just want to freshen, try using regular stain in the same color and rub it on the tired areas with a rag – sometimes that’s all it takes. I used gel stain to darken our old golden oak china hutch, and it is just stunning. It was a lot of work, though. 3. If your hardware is old, do replace it. It will make all of the difference (see my before and after photos). It is new hardware in the photos, but you can refinish existing hardware with amazing spray paint that is available - I like really like working with Rust-Oleum Universal - very forgiving. I have used all kinds of oil-rubbed bronze, satin nickel paints, etc. spray paints with amazing results. 4. The Nuvo kit comes with two 6” short nap fluffy rollers, but they have the plastic caps on the ends instead of fluff which makes it difficult to get into crevices without knocking off the fresh paint elsewhere. If you have lots of crevices in your doors/drawers, definitely invest in rollers that are also fluffy on the end. Even though the video shows using the regular brush for crevices, you will want to use the roller to smooth out the brush strokes. 5. The kit comes with a 4” roller “cage.” Don’t use it, unless you invest in 4” rollers. Use a 6” cage; otherwise, trying to use the just the end of the roller will merely slide along the surface instead of rolling. However, the included brush is very nice. I did not try foam rollers, so I cannot comment on how they would work. I’m not a foam roller fan anyway – much prefer fluff. 6. For two 30” cabinets, I used about ½ of one can (with some waste of not being able to pour all of the excess back into the can). The second coat requires very little paint compared to the first. The before and after photos are of different bathrooms, but the cabinets were identical. Forgot to take before photo of first one. Update: Another reviewer stated that the paint cures more after time, and that is true. We had to use this cabinet for a couple of months while our master bath was demolished, and the paint held up just fine. We also replaced the cheap cultured marble counter top with quartz, and it looks so amazing, that people are complimenting this tiny cabinet as much as our more expensive larger bathrooms! They can't believe that it is a cheap, particle board cabinet that was painted. 07-2026 This is not a cabinet that is abused as much as the master bath, but after 11 years, it still looks freshly painted. Great product!

I used this paint over wood cabinets and it is excellent.Drys hard, easy to clean, and good coverage. I used 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. Very professional and drys fast. It is tintable also. Definitely buy again.

When I applied the first coat of paint I was worried that I wouldn't have enough paint to throughly cover my dark brown cabinets. I needn't have worried. The second coat went on like a dream and gave perfect coverage. In fact, I didn't even need to open the second can of paint, and that was for a 12 foot long run of cabinets. It is quite a fiddly job painting the frames if you don't take the doors off of the cabinets, but it's possible as long as you tape off the hinges as recommended. Another warning, take the time to be sure that you have everything taped with masking tape before you begin--all around where the frame meets the cabinet interiors, walls that butt up to the cabinets, every hinge, etc. This paint dries quickly, so you don't want to pour a tray of paint and then have to stop to move anything or to tape something -- as I did when I realized that I need to move the fridge freezer and tape the wall for an end panel. The kit comes with small rollers, but I opted for my favorite paint pad. It gave a flawless, streak-free finish. One more tip, have some glass cleaner on hand to clean the cabinets before painting (as recommended in the information that comes with the kit.). Only small issue I had was where I had filled a couple of dents and dings--when I painted over the filler, it left a matte instead of a satin finish, so maybe I should have used a primer over those areas before painting. I can't speak to durability yet or to how well it cleans. The manufacturer's instructions recommend avoiding harsh chemicals or scouring, which makes sense. After being advised by family not to attempt painting kitchen cabinets without removing all the doors and using a paint sprayer I'm feeling very pleased. Professional looking finish!

Best paint ever! Plus, a little goes a long way. I have not even needed to get into my 2nd can.

An excellent kit for painting a bathroom vanity. The instructions and video were extremely easy to follow. Really nice paint-goes on smooth and covers well. An excellent alternative to replacing bathroom vanities. I have included before and after pictures. Forgot to take a before shot prior to painting but they are identical vanities in both bathrooms. Just finished the first bathroom so I do not have feedback regarding durability. I will let it cure for 14 days. Hopefully it will be okay. I am extremely pleased with the result. p.s. the vanities are oak.

The paint was very watery and even though I sandpapered the laminate it refused to stick on and I had to wipe off the paint quickly : the paint was practically dripping . What happened ?

Lovely paint -transformed our kitchen

I'm guilty of not writing reviews despite relying heavily on them, so thought I would take the time to say this is truly fantastic paint. It has a silky texture, is a beautiful deep navy/grey colour and makes my kitchen cabinets look really modern and chic. We took the time to sand down the cupboards lightly prior to painting, and then as instructed from the pack we sugar soaped and finished with a glass cleaner to ensure the paint grips to a very clean surface. The brush provided with the pack is really handy for the awkward parts of cupboard doors or any other furniture, and the wee roller was great too. Overall I am really pleased with the finish - the only thing I would highlight is the colour changes with the slightest touch up; ie if you have three coats on one part it is very obvious to see as it goes very dark, so be aware if you are doing any small bits once the paint is dry. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed.

Really good product, easy to apply, very happy with the finish. Wish I had taken before and after pics - I love the look of my kitchen now.
