man!, so many models! the hard part was to stay on track with the words wire-rope - as in clear plastic coated braided stainless steel deer-hunting tree-stand security cable used to lock your tree-stand to the tree. and the clear plastic coated braided stainless-steel bike cable [with the built-in combination-lock] I lost the key for the tree-stand lock [it came with a built-in key-lock] it was 5/16" thick, and the tonxi cutter snipped clean through with very little hand pressure!! same with the bike lock I had around another tree-stand. [this time I had the combo-lock numbers written on the back of a business card, and it got tossed out when I got that new wallet for my birthday, and finally cleaned-out my wallet] any way, my tape measure says the jaws open to 3/8" and remember I used a knife to stripe away the plastic coating before beginning to cut the cable. something to remember. the cutters are solid cast-iron- none of those cheap stamped handles that bend up when you squeeze the handles to hard!! the bolt in the middle that holds the 2 halves together, has a head stamp of 6 lines - that means super-strong on the hardness scale!! the cutters come with a lite-coat of oil, [who does that any more?] and a sliding-open re-useable package,[so the oil won't get wiped-off and you wind-up with rusty cutters. the cutting jaws have been sanded and polished to a shine, and all of this at a great amazon price!!

It came oiled and brand new, well, forget about the "brand" but anyway this thing works perfect! haven't used a lot, but I put it trough SS cable and steel housing cable enough to recommend this tool!

I use this tool for cutting the steel wire rope that we use for hanging paintball netting. The wire rope is very tough 1/4" and this tool can cut it cleanly. It takes a lot of force to cut, so i think the tool would be ideal if the handles were longer to provide more leverage, but otherwise its a very handy item.

Cut FANTASTIC, however, once the screw in the middle loosens up they're pretty much done. I've bought 3 pairs in 9 months, but they fit in my hand as the only woman tanker driver on the fructose team at my beverage company.
