LED Rear Glass Lift Gate Dome Light Bar 07-18 JK JKU Hardtops Factory Look Easy Install Added Safety at Night Great for Camping, Tailgating

This light is well made, versatile, has various brightness levels, and was pretty easy to install in my 2018 JLUR. I can easily recommend this to any Jeep JL owner.The traditional installation for the original JK/JL version is to hardwire it into the dome light on the passenger side. This can seem a little daunting, as removing the plastic moldings around the roll cage requires some firm tugging to free the plastic clips - it can seem like you will break them, but if you are careful, strong and firm, they will release so you can access the dome light wire on the roll cage. If you have the upgraded Alpine subwoofer on the new JL, there is also a hidden single Torx screw in a deep pocket by the passenger rear seatback that must be removed. After that you can tap into the wiring using the supplied wire taps and that’s it. Easy peasy.Many new 2018 Jeep JL owners have mounted this light reversed with the wiring on the driver side, in order to easily plug it into the courtesy 12v power plug on that side, or to hardwire it into the constant 12v power and operate it via an on-demand switch. This is more convenient for many than the traditional dome light wiring option, since the dome light doesn’t stay on forever. For camping or wheeling or even tailgating, having on-demand light is great. However, the original version of this light is manufactured with a curve such that the light doesn’t mount cleanly to the rear tailgate in this reversed way. It can be done and will work okay with some extra 3M tape, but doesn’t look as clean. DonerightLED has recognized this (listening to their customers - two thumbs up!!) and just recently released a new JL version which has the the wiring on the driver side. I just received one of the new JL versions and can confirm it mounts perfectly. I also hardwired the included power cord (comes with the light) into the 12v power with a push button switch (Ulincos Latching Pushbutton Switch U19C2, along with the related Ulincos pigtail wire connector, both purchased from Amazon) that I mounted to the molding around the bottom of the roll cage. The other benefit of mounting with the wiring on the driver side is that the wire from the light can be run through the plastic channel on the rear glass (those moldings pop off fairly easily and you can drill a small hole /notch to fit the wire into), and then you can also run the wire through the inside of the hardtop itself on the driver side (along with the existing wiring and washer tube) for a super clean look. This way, if you want to remove your hardtop occasionally like most Jeep owners, the disconnect plug for the light is located in the same port as the standard wiring harness and washer tube disconnects. Super clean and convenient.

Super kit. I got what must be a new revised one as the light assembly has the same curve as the back of my JK [The documentation said it was for a JL?] Anyway it fit perfectly. From the delivery of the tube inside a box and anther smaller hardware tube inside the main tube I knew I was on the right track. This kit come *VERY* complete. The instructions and illustrations in them are a bit difficult but it was easy enough to install.I wanted to make it look at factory perfect as possible. I removed the passenger side panels at the rear base of the roll bar to get the best access. I also wired it into the rear lamp assembly only I wired it directly into the actual assembly and did not tap the wires. I wanted the new light assembly to light up whenever the dome/cargo light was turned on not only when the doors were opened [and maybe when the internal dimmer/lamp light on was used] SO I wired it directly to the two leads of the lap itself. Now the drivers switch on the column, the door opening AND the lamp switch all activate the new lamp.I also drilled a 3/4 hole in the removed panel top facing toward the outside passenger side [I will all photos if possible] so the the wire that I lead down the rubber seal and into the Jeep could be fed into the panel. In the panel I put the remote mechanism and enough wire that I can disconnect the power from it if/when I take the hard top off - OR - If I am out camping etc. I can bypass the power and use the cigarette lighter adapter on it own.This package is the real deal and comes totally complete with everything you need. I cannot remember the last time I ordered something that I was so pleased to un-package and install. I also bought their lamp/bulb replacement kits for the inside lamps. What a great lighting package. So Pleased.

I can't stress enough how great this light is. It's cleaner, brighter, more professional that you could possibly expect. It was well packed, included anything you might need, and the directions were great. The light is inside a curved 1/4 round diffuser that fits the edge of the window perfectly & direct the light exactly where you'd want it.It comes w/ clips w/ 3m tape on them so you can route the wire clean. I drilled a hole in the hard top down toward the bottom so I could route the wire into the existing hole that the defroster wire goes into & fished it out at the bottom so it was even cleaner. I used the included vampire clips to splice into the wiring at the rollbar dome light. routeing along he roll bar under the padding & then under the plastic trim was super easy. now when I remove the hardtop I'll only have a little pigtail exposed.The remote & controller aren't even needed. You basically use that if the light is too bright for you & you'd like it turned down or not on every time a door opens. I skipped it all together.I previously purchased a cheaper version of this from someone else assuming they were the same thing. nothing could have been further from the truth. this set is more $$$ because it's way nicer.

This thing fits like a glove, was relatively simple to install, looks almost OEM and REALLY increases the visibility in the back of my Wrangler. That said, maybe I wired something a little weird, or maybe this is just what it wants to do, but it'll light up the entire cargo area like daytime even with the rear hatch closed because it's triggered off of the dome light - so if your dome light is on for any reason, like opening a door, locking, etc, it's just kinda weirdly super bright in the back. I think I'm going to install a switch on the back/right of the hardtop so I can choose when to turn that sucker on. Otherwise it's pretty freaking awesome.

Easy to install and super bright LED but mine stopped working about 6 months after install. For this price, this product should last a lot longer.
