Exactly as advertised, maybe better. I checked out a number of reviews for over monitor lighting, wanting to add light to the immediate desk area that was not provided by ceiling lighting. This light bar was highly recommended and I now concur. It is easy to install, holds securely to monitor and lights the desk area without interferring with the monitor iteself or shining in my eyes. I bought two for a dual monitor setup and the two nicely light my entire desk work area. They are also adjustable by warmth and brightness which I find useful as I dislike overly white light, preferring the warmer settings. They are on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for.

I've been using the BenQ Screenbar E-Reading LED Computer Monitor Light Lamp for over a year now and I have to say, I'm really impressed with it. The matte black design is sleek and modern, and it complements my backlight/RGB setup nicely. But what really sets this light apart is its auto-dimming and hue adjustment features. One of the things I love most about this light is that it is USB powered. This means that it is easy to set up and use, and it also makes it easy to take with you on the go if you need to. The build quality is also impressive. It feels solid and well-constructed, and it has held up well over the past year. The auto-dimming feature is a game-changer for me. It allows the light to automatically adjust to the ambient light in the room, which means that I can use it in any lighting conditions and still be able to see my screen clearly. After trying several different kinds of lamps to light up my keyboard, I finally found this gem. It is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Like many, I only hesitated on the price - a hundred dollars was a lot to pay for a little ole desk lamp. The worst thing about reviews is that they want us to review items immediately after purchase. Well, heck, that only tells us that the dealer delivered a working product promptly and in new/working condition. For them, the dealers, that's the easy part (or should be). It doesn't say anything about whether it's gonna last more than a couple of weeks, does it? *I BOUGHT MY LIGHT BACK IN JUNE OF 2019 (3.5 years ago), AND IT'S STILL WORKING LIKE NEW!* It's one of the best, most reliable things I've purchased from Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. It doesn't add clutter to my desktop, because it perches securely on top of my monitor, and it spreads light EVENLY down to my keyboard, which, of course, is exactly where I need light. It's slightly adjustable, enough to turn it so that there's no reflection on my monitor screen and still provides plenty of light for my keyboard. It also lights up the desktop in front of my keyboard, so I can also see what I'm doing if I need to take handwritten notes, or whatever. And I'm still using the same LED lights that it arrived with, so I haven't had the inconvenience or expense of changing light bulbs. In other words, it does EXACTLY what I need it to do. Regular desk lamps, because they must be placed to the side of the monitor, only lit up one side or the other of my keyboard, and that was entirely unacceptable. Without hesitation, if you're wondering if it's worth a hundred dollars, I would say absolutely, and without hesitation, yes! UPDATE, May, 2024 - My little light bar is still working like new!

TL;DR Premium monitor light bar at a premium price. Would recommend if budget is not a huge concern Like the title states, I really desperately wanted to hate the BenQ Screenbar so that I would have an excuse to return it. At a steep $100 price point, it was hard to justify the purchase in the first place, but I ended up enjoying it much more than I expected. This review will mostly be a comparison to the TORCHSTAR Computer Monitor Light and I will be posting a similar review on that product as well. A bit of background: I've always used/preferred task lighting when it comes to working at my desk and doing work on my computer. Up until about a week ago an architect style lamp from Ikea was filling the bill, but then I upgraded to a monitor stand for more desk real estate and now my my monitors are too high for that style lamp. After doing some research, I came across the BenQ Screenbar and similar styled lamps (i.e. TORCHSTAR Computer Monitor Light)--shopping around and reading reviews I narrowed it down to those 2 (thanks especially to Ken Y). I went ahead and purchased both from Amazon and after some light use decided to keep the BenQ Screenbar. At the time of purchase, the BenQ light was $99.00 and the TORCHSTAR $57.99 ($77.99 with a $20 off coupon) before tax. I've included photos to show the "differences" between the 2 lights--for all pictures the lights are at maximum brightness and maximum "warmth" or "coolness". All Photos are also captured at the same exposure settings with the same white balance for consistency. PROS: -Brighter (not sure if the LEDs themselves actually get brighter or there are just more, but this was a big reason I chose it) -Larger illumination area (about 3.5" longer than the TORCHSTAR) -Auto LED is green and milder (hurts my eye less than the sharp blue) -Clamp feels sturdier -Controls feel much more responsive and intuitive (sometimes I felt like I wasn't sure if the torchstar was working but I always knew if the BenQ was. Also with the Torchstar the brightness or color ALWAYS alternated between touches making it kind of difficult to reach exactly the right settings) -Flat cable USB feels more premium CONS: -Hefty price tag for a fancy USB LED strip -There's no diffuser over the LEDs (this may be a choice as diffused light scatters more but it hurts if you accidentally look into the LEDs and the diffuser wasn't too noticeable on the TORCHSTAR) -Noticeable flicker when dimming (slight pro though because on the torchstar sometimes I can't tell if it's working) -Auto mode doesn't disable if you tap it again (it does on the TORCHSTAR) -Torchstar came with an allen key to adjust the clamp tightness (I think the BenQ has a similar access panel but no key) SIMILARITIES: -Both work fairly well with curved monitors. (I use a Samsung CF398 27" as my primary display and a CF390 24" as my secondary) -Both have directed LED strips to minimize glare on the monitors (some of the chinese knockoffs aren't built well and create a ton of glare) -They honestly both just work well At the end of the day, I can kind of recommend both light bars, but I just personally preferred the BenQ more and am willing to pay the premium for it. My complaints with the TORCHSTAR are mostly minor and especially if you don't change the settings much won't even be very noticeable. I bought this lamp to replace an Ikea halogen lamp that didn't fit well around my 32" monitor. I use the desk light to reduce eyestrain as my eyes have to go from light to dark and back again in a darkened room. Setup is super easy, just let it rest atop your display, plug in the USB, and press the power button. The touch controls are sensitive, but far enough out of the way your lamp won't come on and off by itself... unless you have a house cat. The auto-dim doesn't seem to do much. I don't notice a difference if I turn the room lights on or leave the room dark. I do not mind the default brightness with auto-dim on. Color temp adjustment is nice. Likely what makes the lamp much more expensive than other options. I can adjust from close to the Halogen's color to more like an office fluorescent lamp. The light makes no discernable heat unlike the lamp it replaced. The halogen lamp could burn you if you were to rest your hand on it. The counterweight assembly holds on securely. The lamp doesn't wobble when I move my monitor on the adjustable arm. The USB power source means the monitor powers the lamp so I don't have to worry about a lamp cord when repositioning my monitor. It's a very nice and bright lamp for working in a darker room. Build quality is top notch. However, if you're not picky about color temp or need auto-dim then you might find a cheaper option a bit more to your liking. There's no doubt this is an expensive desk accessory.

UPDATE: I replaced the wall power adapter, and the touch controls function well again. I like this light for several reasons, but with one major drawback. First, the bad. The touch sensitive controls are a nice feature, but they have stopped working for the most part. When I first got the device, the controls worked well and made sense. I like adjusting it for a fairly dim amber light, which provides enough brightness to see items on my desk without adding glare. However, the buttons are almost non-functional now. Something is not right. I have to touch them numerous times to get them to respond. It's pretty frustrating when all you want to do is get the thing to turn on. Aside from that, everything else is great. It's a nice design with a weighted counterbalance that keeps it snug and stable on top of the monitor. The USB power is great. I power it from a wall outlet, but you could power it directly from a PC. The design is unobtrusive, and it doesn't add a lot of weight to the monitor, which is nice since I have that monitor mounted on an adjustable arm. If not for the issue with the buttons, I would rate it a strong 5. I rate it a 1 for ease of use only because the buttons started becoming finicky after about a year of gentle use. The buttons are logical and easy to understand; it's just that they are hard to use when they stop responding to touch.

My office is set up for photo editing, with a calibrated monitor, calibrated lighting, and even the paint of the walls is designed to be absolutely color neutral. All great for my gig, but when I would use my desk for admin chores, the lighting was just too dim for that purpose. The BenQ Screenbar Monitor Light fixed that issue in terrific fashion. It is sleek, well designed, easy to use, and does a fantastic job putting light my desk when I need it, and not into my monitor, where I don't want it. And no, I do not leave it on when I'm photo editing, but it stays on for just about every other task at my desk. Nice. As an FYI, I was considering the BenQ Halo Screenbar Monitor Light as well, specifically because it is advertised as having a high color rendering index value of Ra>95, which means the color temperature it produces is extremely accurate in tone - which is great for previewing my photo prints. The $190 price of the Halo threw me off however, and when I checked in with BenQ, turns out the basic Screenbar Monitor Light has a color rendering index value of Ra>95 as well. Glad I checked and this less expensive version is a total win! Overall: This is a great monitor light and yes, you are paying more than the cheaper knock-offs, but the overall quality of this, and all of BenQ's screenbars, is just superb. My only "wish", is that I could turn the light down just a touch more, but that does nothing to change my opinion. The BenQ Screenbar Monitor Light comes recommended.

I received my new light two days ago, a day earlier than my new BenQ monitor. Together, they make an amazing pair. My work area at home is about the size of an office cubicle, and my desk is 3'x5', so I'm fairly limited on the amount of space I have. When I ordered my new monitor (the 2nd one for my desk so I have a dual monitor setup), I had to give up my desk light. The BenQ ScreenBar was a potentially good solution. The light does exactly what they claim -- it lights my work area very nicely without any glare on the screen. My screen does have a non-glare finish, and I do wonder if a glossy monitor surface may have a different result. It's easy to setup and use, the color temperature is adjustable, and it changes brightness as it senses changes in my room lighting. One of the things that sold me on the light was comments regarding Zoom lighting. Absolutely DON'T count on this to light your face for virtual meetings. That's not a criticism, though -- it's not what it's meant to do. However, I do use a Lume Cube Go Panel, and although it lights my face, there wasn't enough ambient light. The combination is perfect. I couldn't be happier. One of the reviews mentions that the mounting bracket covers their camera. I can see the issue (my new monitor doesn't have a camera, so it's not a problem -- the camera is on my other "monitor," my iMac). There are two easy solutions: 1) the light can slide in the bracket so that the light is centered, but the bracket is off-center, or 2) the light can be assembled as intended and can sit off-center on the monitor. It's meant to be mounted in the latter configuration, but I think #1 would work just fine if the thought of an off-center light bother you. My only complaint is that it arrived with one of the endcaps displaced. It took a few minutes of fiddling, but I was able to snap it back in place without having to exchange the light. If you're thinking of getting a ScreenBar, I highly recommend this product. I'm glad I didn't try to go for one of the inexpensive knockoffs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new light!

It’s a useful addition to add task lighting to any workspace. My ceiling light is a strong harsh bright cold white light which is too much for day time or working into the night. In the evenings and morning the screenbar is on ambient mode which has soft lighting which is enough to read and write notes on the desk with indirect daylight from a window. If I need to write more at night I do turn up the brightness. Additional indirect light sources in a room is still helpful. I do find the ambient mode switch useful. The switches are easy to access. It mounts easily. I think the Plus model with additional desk controller is nice but really not necessary. Be really, really nice to have a proximity sensor in future though. Moved the existing desk lamp to another room to reclaim even more desk space.

El mejor accesorio que he comprado últimamente! La lampara simplemente funciona a la perfección. El ángulo que tiene no refleja en los ojos ni en la superficie de la pantalla del monitor. Tiene diferentes calibraciones de tipo de luz (fría a cálida). Pensé que iba a necesitar mover de lugar la webcam que tenia sobre el monitor, sin embargo se acomodó muy bien encima de la barra de la lámpara. Puede considerarse que el precio es alto para una lampara pero la ergonomía y la comodidad de no tener un espacio dedicado para una lampara lo vale completamente. Altamente recomendable.

Easy to assemble, looks sleek and good quality, however lights wont turn on and on powering up the unit remains in Auto-Dimmer mode (which is a mode I've yet to find a use for).
