Bought these for a school reading project for some students. Great little book for kids.

Love these stories

This is a wonderful book that my daughter first read in kindergarten and loved. She begged me to buy it for her for Christmas, and now I know why. It is a wonderful re-writing of the traditional gingerbread man tale, in which the girl outsmarts the fox by using her intelligence and cunning. A great story to inspire girls to use their intelligence and strong wills. And while it is written about a girl, my daughter's kindergarten teacher said that both boys and girls really enjoyed the story.

I am sure that my enthusiasm for this book, as the teacher reading it, has some effect on why my students love this book, too. This book is empowering for girls, engaging, and in general an all around positive, different spin on the traditional story. For the refrain, I have the children stand up as we chant, "I'll run and I'll run, with a LEAP (do a fake leap!) and a TWIRL (spin around on your toes, like a ballerina dancer), you can't catch ME (point to your chest), I'm the Gingerbread Girl!" The kids just giggle and giggle. After several days of reading this story I encourage the students to make up their own gingerbread people stories and they are sooo creative. Enjoy this book... it's a really nice, bigger sized hard cover book than most other books- it has to be stacked sideways on the shelf.

This is a wonderful book I gave to my grand daughter when she was about 6. We would read it together every time I would visit, and eventually she read it to me. In addition, we designed and cut out, (free hand) our own gingerbread cookie, the size of the cookie sheet, and decorated it to look like her! The recent book I ordered is for another little girl of 6, grand daughter of a friend of mine. I'm pretty sure it will meet with the same success -- and elevate me to one of her 'favorites' list as well her grand father's. :)

Cute story! Just wish the paperback was cheaper

I was familiar with this book because I volunteer at a kindergarten, and it is used there as part of the curriculum. The verse is sweet, the lesson solid and the delivery is delightful. But I bought the book for my 4 1/2-year-old granddaughter as part of her Christmas gift, which will include the Gingerbread Man book, two corduroy gingerbread boy and girl dolls and a stuffed fox and some gingerbread boy and girl cookie cutters. Love the story and its kinder, gentler message completes the old traditional story.

The book is huge, first of all. I think I missed the size when I was buying it and I kind of expected it to be the regular hand-sized story book. But it's A4 size and hardcover with a leaflet over the cover. Pretty cute take on the classic Gingerbread Man.
