I feel compelled to write a review for Amazon about A Christmas Story Christmas. First, I should state that I am a big fan of the original movie. And that is an important disclosure because it sets the bar incredibly high for any type of sequel in my view. In fact, I saw A Christmas Story 2 and I won't be wasting any of my time writing a review for that movie. In contrast, this movie was thoughtful, respectful to the original, and undeniably heartwarming. I watched it once last year. But I finally found the time to catch it this year and I found myself wet eyed while watching it twice this evening. That’s right, this movie improved with time for me. I thought it was good last year, but it “aged” particularly well over the past year in my mind and any movie I’ve ever watched a second time a year or more later that seemed better than the first time I watched it, has that rare “it” for me. The magic to pull humor, empathy, and bittersweet emotions into a world dating back to the mid 70’s is a world that you’ll want to be drawn into. At least I did and I was happy to take the journey. A movie that seems oh so familiar because you’ve seen the original countless times – do yourself a favor, buy the movie. Watch it with other fans of the genre. You’ll be glad you did. I lost my old man 7 years ago and he definitely had similarities with Ralph’s Dad. That makes this movie all the more poignant to me. I want to thank anyone who had a hand in making this film. It is now solidified as one of my personal favorites. Is it perfect? No. But it hits all the notes it needs to hit and does so effortlessly. A sequel that waited nearly 40 years to launch and I dare say - worth the wait. Bravo!

Delivered fast and as advertised

I had been anticipating this movie for awhile after hearing this was in the making. There have been various movie prequels and sequels chronicling Ralphie and his family's life adventures with different actors taking on the roles of all the main characters. But none of them have quite the charm as the wonderful 'A Christmas Story'. I wasn't disappointed with the movie. Most of the original cast from 'Christmas' are back reprising their roles with the exception of Melinda Dillon who was unwilling to come out of retirement to reprise her role as Ralphie's mother. She was also ill at the time and that may have been the main factor in not taking on the role. Julie Haggarty from the comedy 'Airplane' stepped into the part and was an adequate replacement. I would say the humor is not quite on par with the original, though there is plenty to laugh about. The plot is a little more somber with a grown up Ralph and his family returning to his childhood home in Indiana to take up the mantle of his father in giving the family a great Christmas just like his father did when he was a little boy. Overall, I really liked it and I highly recommend it.

Watched this many times thru the years and love it every time

"A Christmas Story Christmas" is a good follow-up to the original classic. It was nice to see the continuation of the story with Peter Billingsley taking up Ralphie once more. The story is a sentimental addition to the original Bob Clark film. The absence of Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon is truly felt, but Julie Hagerty does do a nice job filling in for the mother. Overall a good story you should check out in the holiday season.

Not good or bad - just mediocre.

We have all the great xmas movies, and this one fits well with all the others.

This was worthy for the theatres! This is the best part 2 movie we’ve ever seen! And in this movie there are some real characters from the first movie. So we’ll done and they put a lot of thought into how they were going to pull this sequel off. Like I said, this should have been in the theatres. I imagine Hollywood probably never even picked this fantastic movie up…..

its great to see the second version of this movie

My first time watching this dvd part 2 to a christmas story the movie is great, loved so much watching it perfect movie for Christmas or any time you want to watch it wonderful dvd movie really enjoyed this movie.

Great follow up to the original classic

My husband is a total fan of the Christmas Story which is why I got Christmas Story 2. He watched it and was pleasantly pleased. He liked that it was it's own story but had links to the original throughout including bringing in the same actors and characters. Sometimes when someone is a fan of an original, it's very hard to please them as they will often be more critical. Overall, my husband really liked the follow up movie. Worth the purchase.
