mostly fits a 2007 4runner
Bought this as a hopefully easy fix for the notorious deterioration of the hatch switch cover into a gummie mass. This cover mostly fit the hatch switch but is a little loose. I am a little worried about fine debris getting behind the cover but will see if over time the cover "seals" itself with age over the opening where the switch is. As to installation, you'll need Anex 6102T low profile phillips head bit set because there is no way to get a regular screw driver nor a right angle "carburetor" tool into the cavity where the cover is given the angle at which the switch is installed. The Anex tool actually works pretty well. If you plan on taking the interior panel off the hatch, you are better off just buying the complete switch that already has the cover installed because this cover and the Anex tool are about half of the cost of a complete new switch. Be sure to put some painter's tape around the switch area to prevent marring of the paint.

Fixed a long standing problem inexpensively
This part did not take long to install. Keep the screws from the original to use with this piece. It is a little difficult to unscrew given the location but you can get a tool from a local store pretty easily. Also, you can pop the part completely off (I was hesitant but had read other reviews that people said to do this) and it worked like a charm. Make sure the spring doesn't get a way from you. It's actually very easy. I Used WD-40 to help get the goop off. It doesn't hurt the paint and makes it much easier (also read this tip in a review). Once the new part is installed it is So Much Better! I can't believe I waited so long!

Nice and its Toyota parts!
Just extra careful for the last nut not to loss it coz it’s really awkward to loosen it and make sure you have goops to remove the melted rubber before you start the new stuff to install.

This is a good replacement cover
The hatch liftgate cover will do the job to replace the original cover that had deteriorated over time. I used the screws from the original switch cover because the ones that came with this item were too small. This cover will keep you from getting the tar-like goo on your fingers when opening the hatchback.

Tail gate switch cover.
I have a 2008 Lexus RX350. Just replaced the rubber pad. Old one was a sticky mess. The replacement part came with a angled cross tip screw driver. Took a few minutes to install due to the tight awkward angle, but was able to replace the pad. Need to use a flat tip screwdriver to carefully pry the switch assembly off, remove old pad and clean off any rubber residue and slip on the new. No more sticky mess on the fingers.

Not an easy fix
The benefit to this is that it does do the job as intended. The unfortunate part is that you have to disassemble the switch in order to put this part on. Whilst doing so, you have to make sure that the spring underneath doesn’t fly as you work the rubber off the switch.Unless you have the patience to pull this apart carefully, you’re better off getting the actual switch and replacing it which takes much less time and guaranteed to work

Good product
It appears to be good and sturdy. Ours was missing one screw there was a small slit in package. We were able to reuse one of our screws. No fault of the part a lil tip ours was a bit hard to install due to the license plate stuck out farther. We had to remove the plate. To get to the screws.

Rubber piece fits fantastically but the screws don't
Replaced latch rubber cover on a 2009 Prius. Only had to remove the two screws holding it in and gently used a plastic trim tool to pop out the switch. No need to disassemble the back of the hatch. After removing tons of rubber gunk, the replacement rubber cover fit very well. The only downside is that the screws included are useless. They aren't big enough. They will thread in loosely but will not tighten down. Luckily the old screws were in good condition and I just used the originals.
