One of my favourite books from my childhood
This was one of my favourite stories when I was a child, now I get to share it with my children. The book is a good size. No issues with it at all

Lovely story about it raining inside (a burst pipe) when Alfie has a babysitter. Beautiful illustrations mean that you can read it to a child who doesn't have the patience to listen to all the words yet because you can just talk through the pictures. My son is 2 and it's been one of his favourite books for 6months and I'm sure he will enjoy it for another few years.

We love Alfie
Brilliant book. So much to see in the pictures for toddlers to relate to. Excellent story.

A cleverly written picture book
I bought this book to add to my Shirley Hughes collection and this is one of the best stories she's ever written and illustated. I like the way things are linked in this book (i.e. the evening in winter, the story of Noah's ark, the burst pipe and Annie Rose crying). Not only does this book have a basic plot (Maureen and her parents dealing with the burst pipe) but it also has a sub-plot (Alfie trying to work out why Annie Rose is crying). This is a must-have book for any Shirley Hughes fan. 5/5.

love it
My daughters love this book as did I when I was younger. Our friends little girl loved it when they came to stay so we brought them a copy. My eldest daughter now can read it to her little sister and they love the beautiful pictures.
