An absolute dream to work with!
As a long-time fan of quality art supplies, I can confidently say that the Caran d’Ache Supracolor Watercolor Pencils are an absolute dream. These pencils strike a perfect balance between versatility, rich pigment, and ease of use, making them an essential tool for both professional artists and hobbyists alike. The color payoff is exceptional—vivid, smooth, and easily blendable. Whether dry or activated with water, the pigments maintain their brilliance without fading or becoming chalky. The pencils glide effortlessly on the paper, providing great control over fine details, but they also blend beautifully when washed with water to create soft gradients or bold, striking washes. One of the standout features is their excellent lightfastness. I feel confident that my work will remain vibrant over time, which is crucial for any serious artist. Additionally, the pencil leads are soft yet durable, meaning I’ve rarely encountered breakage even with heavy pressure.Whether I’m sketching quick ideas or creating detailed watercolor effects, the Supracolor pencils are incredibly responsive to whatever technique I’m using. They layer well and work harmoniously with traditional watercolors for mixed media work, making them a joy for experimentation. In terms of packaging, Caran d’Ache never disappoints. The sleek, elegant tins offer both practicality and a touch of luxury. It feels like you’re working with a premium product from the moment you open the set.Overall, these pencils are worth every penny and they are perfect for traveling. Highly recommended!

Love them!
I am very pleased with this pencil set. I wanted a small set to put in my plein air travel painting kit for sketching before painting. I like to use watercolor pencils because they blend into the art and don't show in the finished painting. It's small, light, and easy to pack. Lightfastness is also very important to me and this product has excellent lightfast ratings. The color goes on smooth and consistent, and stays vibrant. It dissolves with a touch of water and I have no trouble with any marks or lines not dissolving. The colors blend easily and I have not had a problem with any grainy left overs. I know this brand is expensive, but it is worth it. They also work great for coloring books, the smooth application of color and blending is excellent. Since they dissolve with so little water using them in coloring books with nice thick paper is easy. Just work in small sections at a time and let them dry often. This helps keep the paper from buckling too much. One final note, they are not as translucent as pan watercolors.

Having Caran d'Ache coloring pencils to color is like having Rolls Royce cars to drive
Having Caran d'Ache coloring pencils to color is like having Rolls Royce cars to drive. Caran d'Ache started in Switzerland in 1915 and was officially founded in 1924. Today, Caran d'Ache produces colored pencils considered to be the top of the line! I have used them since I was a kid in primary school and when I opened this tin they looked so beautiful and so finely done that I was sorry to even take them off the tin! But I did, and I am enjoying coloring with Caran d'Ache Supracolor. That is just my opinion, but if you consult the experts, all of them will include the Swiss Caran d'Ache brand at the very top of their lists. Caran d'Ache Supracolor Metal Box Set of 12 Coloring Pencils is a great investment, and if you like them, later you can try the big box that holds 120 colors in three large tins. That was my last Christmas present for my artist brother, who grew up surrounded by Caran d'Ache color pencils. You see, Switzerland is not just about clocks, watches, and chocolate bars, there is also Caran d'Ache! with headquarters in Geneva!

All of the hype is true--these watercolor pencils are great wet or dry!!!!
They live up to all of the comments in the research I did before purchasing them. I read over two dozen reviews and not one person had anything bad to say about the pencils. The only complaints were the price--they are expensive, and the lack of open stock to replace your most used favorite colors. We all have one or two go to colors that seem to be gone before the rest of the colors are even half way used up.Dry--the color goes on with ease for brilliant, even, dry color. This is not the case with other brands I have use. Wet--the colors are incredibly vibrant and all pencil lines disappear. I have only done small art so I do all of my blending dry, then use water for final smoothing and brilliance. So as to how they blend on a large size I don't know. I had researched light fastness. These were not the highest rated and I have not done any tests so I have no valid experience in this area. Bottom line I love them!

Professional grade
I liked how smooth the watercolor pencils could get into small area's. The colors were so vibrant I didn't have to use very much water. They looked very nice when they were used only as a colored pencil. I was not disappointed. They were everything I reviewed on line.

Not so great working with water
These are nice colored pencils but I bought them to also work with water. When you add water to them they look wonderful at first. But once they dry in a few hours the color dulls out and the product spreads, so where you thought you had a nice crisp line when it was wet, now looks faded and washed out.
