Period action adventure set in the late 19th century, directed by Hugh Hudson ('Chariots of Fire'). Christopher Lambert stars as Tarzan of Greystoke, who as an infant was orphaned on the west coast of Africa following a shipwreck, and was rescued and brought up by a family of highly-evolved apes. Twenty years later, a Belgian hunter, Captaine Phillippe D'Arnot (Ian Holm), encounters the man who has now become Tarzan, Lord of the Apes when the ape-man rescues him from a terrible death. When the Captaine finds evidence to prove that Tarzan is the direct descendant of the Earl of Greystoke, he takes it upon himself to return the man to civilization. But Edwardian England is very different to the wilds of the African jungle, and Tarzan finds himself torn between two irreconcilable worlds...

Bought this for my Nan and ended up enjoying it as well
My Nan for the longest time kept telling me she had a VHS of "Greystoke" that had vanished and while I highly doubt it was this movie in particular I had decided to buy it for her as a gift and then both watch it together. Its a rather interesting movie though it does have some strange things about it and certainly not something you'd recommend to everyone but I personally liked it. Unfortunate that unlike the original incredibly old (and apparently lost) movies this did not get a sequel.

A true represenatation of Tarzan
A powerful and poignant film.I have seen this film a number of times and there are a few scenes which are powerful and thought provoking. Namely Tarzan has a shave. Tarzan killing the male chimpanzee who was a bully; and lastly the demise of his adoptive father(chimpanzee) killed by the guardsman. As human beings we are quick to judge on appearances and afraid of anything new. The fact that Christopher Lambert was adopted by the chimpanzees and brought up was a miracle in its own right. Yes we can say this is just a film however it does give us an idea of how a human being could behave after bieng reared by chimpanzees.

Prompt arrival. Perfect transaction.
This made a powerful impact on me and my family when we saw it in the cinema. It was also the swansong of Ralph Richardson, to whom the makers dedicated the film.I'm looking forward to seeing it again. It's quite close to the book, especially at the beginning, when the equatorial forest is splendidly portrayed. It earned its kudos.

Box had a massive dent in the back
I'm sure the film itself will be great but I'm annoyed this admittedly second hand DVD had a massive dent in its back. I will not be using this re-seller again.
