However, the Classic 300 comes with an installed water filter sponge that is optional and helps catch minerals from hard water. **Q: After filling it with water, how long does it take for the steam to come out? I filled mine, and I've been waiting for awhile.** A: I don't have this exact one but I have one very similar. Steam comes out right away. Perhaps you might want to contact Levoit. One thing, be sure the tank is set all the way on (not cockeyed). Sometimes I don't get the tank all the way on. **Q: False advertising w/auto shut off? I saw one manufacturers description here say there IS auto shut off. Customers say no/yes. What's true?** A: Good question! Our Classic 160 humidifier will auto-shut off when the water tank is empty or has been lifted. Just refill the tank and properly place it on the base to continue using your humidifier. It is very quiet all of the time. I run it all day on low with the steam pointed toward my bed and so far, it's not using that much water. You can adjust which way you want the cool mist to exit as well as the speed from like low to high. I don't have any pets, just nasty carpet. I call it nasty, because all carpet is nasty to me. I dislike carpet so much! I don't have a choice, though. I bought the Levoit Air Purifier also and I think the filter is supposed to last around six months, so we shall see. I bought a replacement filter when I bought the purifier and several filters for the humidifier, as well. It looks like I may have to change the Humidifier filter once a week as a week out, it is starting to turn brownish-yellow around the top of it. I don't smoke and do try to keep an extremely clean place, so not sure what the discoloration is. I'm the only one who has ever lived here. I use distilled water but also bought the demineralization kit and extra filters for the humidifier in case I run out of distilled water and have to use tap water. I clean the humidifier every day. It's not hard to do once you do it. I love the modern look and it is built very well. It's really not hard to use at all. I believe it is super effective combined with my also Levoit Air Purifier. I have them on opposite sides of my small bedroom as I couldn't put my humidifier under the smoke alarm. My skin feels much softer and cleaner using the both of them. I could instantly tell a difference in how well I could breathe using them. As before purchasing them, I couldn't breathe out of my nose at all. The humidity is brutal here. I have been able to get the humidity down to 58, which is something the local meteorologist said couldn't happen in these heatwave temperatures! Ha! I only use GENUINE LEVOIT filters and they're a bit more costly, but I prefer to use the real deal and have less problems/headaches. It can be a bit catchy to find them on Amazon and the generic ones keep popping up; however, I went straight to the Levoit store to get the genuine ones. Blessed to be able to somewhat better control my Asthma and all-season Allergies with the help of these two awesome products! Thank you, Amazon and Levoit!
