No more struggling with manual can openers that require excessive force; this one does the job smoothly and efficiently. The blade cuts cleanly, leaving no sharp edges, which is a significant safety feature.Overall, I highly recommend the Swing A Way Easy Crank Can Opener for anyone looking for a reliable, efficient can opener. Extra torque for older hands
This is a very handy can opener! It is the swing away can opener of my teenage years upgraded, with a longer handle and a convenient knob that can be folded out of the way. If you're one of those people who cannot operate the simple T handle of the original swing way can opener, this is your answer. It will open virtually any can that requires a can opener and does so effortlessly. Cleaning a simple, I'll rinse it off under really hot water and set it off to the side. The one thing you should not do with these can openers, is soap them. The water gets into the sleeve bearings and eventually messes up the can opener. Rinse and release. That's all you need to do. Great value for the money highly recommended, I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Best ever
This is the brand I grew up with at my grandma's house. Hers was mounted on the wall but I forever remember the brand. This is an effortless can opener and I cannot recommend it enough. Throw away all the cheap ones and buy the only one you will ever need and want.

Works very well
I bought this wanting something sturdy but thinking it would be overkill for regular home kitchen use. It’s perfect. Punctures and turns very easily. Does not drop the can when the lid comes off. Highly recommend.

Do not waste your time or money! Dull Blade After 50 ( yes fifty) # 10 Can Uses
What a big disappointment. This opener lasted for 50 uses (approx 60 days), then stopped working due to the inferior blade material. See image for dull blade from the Chinese made brand can opener. After the Chinese brand stopped working, I purchased a number 10 can opener made in the USA.World's Best Can Opener - Made in USA - Sold by Vets - Easy Turn - Manual Can OpenerSo far, (120 days) I am past 100 can openings, with the made in USA can opener showing very little wear. I estimate this one made in the USA should open at least 300 cans. That is 6 times of the Chinese made can opener.I use this only for opening #10 cans.I highly value the can opener made in the USA.

Okay, here's the scoop.
I read a lot of negative reviews about this kind of manual can opener, which has an extended handle. Most complaints had to do with the long handle not clearing the table or counter top when operating it.Well, to speak frankly, all those unhappy people were using this product the wrong way. The way it's supposed to be used is in a horizontal position (handle upwards instead of sideways). You have to fasten the blade below the rim of the can lid, not in a vertical position (which pierces the lid itself). When the blade is used in this position, it punctures the side of the can, which is thinner than the metal of the lid, so the opener moves easily around the circumference of the can. The only tough part to cut on the side of a can is its seam, but that can be avoided by starting the cut to the side of the seam, and finishing the cut just before reaching the seam again. This variation of the horizontal technique leaves the lid attached to a small piece of the side of the can, which can be bent backwards to get the lid out of the way when removing the food. The long handle is rotated horizontally (like the handle of a Foley food mill or an old-fashioned hand-crank dough kneader), so the handle is not knocking on the table or counter top, and in this position the long handle is also easier for arm muscles to use (rather than using the short, finger-operated handle of the other version of this can opener, which is especially tough for arthritic fingers to do). BTW, if you've got one of the finger-operated kinds of this type of can opener, it can also be used in the horizontal position, cutting the side of the can instead of the lid.It can also help to push down or tear off the top edge of the paper label before cutting the can, because the intact label can catch in the mechanical parts, cutting off strips of paper that can get into the food, or gumming up the gear and blade. As always, exercise care in removing food from the opened can, because the cut edge of the can side is sharp.Deleted one star because of false advertising: It's not Swing-A-Way brand but an imitation labeled "Garde" (the Swing-A-Way opener is such an old invention, its patent probably expired long, long ago); however, it works just as well as the name-brand can opener, when used correctly in the horizontal position.

Love it! (Second purchase)
I love this beast of a can opener. After years of using my parent's electric can openers that always broke, and then trying cheap hand held ones, I came across this long handled can opener at work and had to buy one. The first one I bought was in 2019 and I just now replaced it five years later with a new one. The first one got pretty rusty. I'm sure it would've lasted a lot longer, but we just didn't take care of it like we should have. We definitely plan to take better care of this second one. Will never switch to another can opener brand/model again.

The crank works great and the action is smooth.
I've got arthritis in my hands and a conventional can opener is Hell to turn the little crank. This works as slick as beets.
