Can you reassure me that the blue liquid is NOT mercury, and contains not a trace of mercury, please?

TFA Dostmann do not use mercury in any their glass thermometers.

Would I be able to read the temperature from 6ft away from inside my house. I want to look through my window to wall 6ft away ?

I'm afraid it will not be possible. I bought one hoping to see from my sitting room window (18 inches away) and it was impossible to read. I've put it up but cannot use it - a very expensive mistake.

Is this made from metal or plastic

This is made of very heavy metal but, I found it very difficult to read ( so a very expensive mistake) I think if the mercury was red instead of blue there might not have been a problem. I bought a very large plastic one in the end and it is brilliant.
