Got this during Prime Day and was worth every penny
It has been over two years now since I bought this. Since then I have bought a better espresso machine (Gemilai G3028a) and a Varia VS4 so I can switch between espresso and pour-over easily with one grinder. As such, I wanted to update this review for those who have something similar and are considering the K-Ultra.Comparison between the two:- VS4 gives a deeper body, emphasizing darker, heavier notes more (think chocolate, plum, etc)- K-Ultra is a bit lighter and does a better job of balancing the lighter notes (spices, creaminess, buttery, etc)- Note: I am unsure if cleaner is the right word--I typically don't chase clarity. So I will stick with lighter.- VS4 is more forgiving if you grind too fine. The heavier notes end up stronger with some loss in overall balance, but still enjoyable- K-Ultra is slightly quicker to clean- Grind times are pretty comparable for pour over- I do not use the K-Ultra for espresso because I got lazy and the VS4 is stepless and far easier to dial inNeither grinder is better in my opinion because both provide a great cup in their own right. I bounce between the two in phases similar to how I bounce between various drippers in phases (V60, Mugen, CT62, etc)I should also note that I have never strayed from 300 RPM on the VS4 for pour over, so maybe VS4 has a genuine edge. It is more than twice the cost, so that shouldn't really be a mark against the K-Ultra.Given I find the K-Ultra to be great alongside the VS4 at half the cost, I would give this another star if I could for its value per dollar.----- ORIGINAL REVIEW -----I was using a Baratza Virtuoso+ previously and made great pourovers and okay espresso with it. I wanted an upgrade as well as something I can take with me to work. Since I’ve gotten this, I haven’t touched my Virtuoso+.Things to note:+ Espresso grinds can be a bit of a light workout, especially for lighter roasts. Not terrible and I don’t mind. If that’s important to you though, maybe stick to electric or get a J-Ultra. Personally I feel like if you have no medical issues and can’t deal with it for less than a minute, you have more concerning issues to address+ Pourover grinds are a breeze+ Internal capacity is likely 30g max. I couldn’t do 40g at once, and I am skeptical of the claimed 35g+ Idk the catch cup capacity as I usually dump out the grounds from the first grind to a larger dose cup for my daily 40g brew.+ Pourovers taste amazing even when compared to the Virtuoso+. I find the flavors more accentuated. I am a generally traditional palette kind of guy who also likes fruitier coffees but with a bit of a body. This grinder is perfect for me+ Espresso is still a bit harder to grind in. I have yet to dial it in properly as the grounds seem more uniform than the Virtuoso+. The espresso tends to be a bit on the acidic side though. I am using a cheaper Casabrews CM5418 though so it’s very possible the machine just can’t do finer grinds and larger doses as well as say the Bambino can+ Very easy to use and clean, though the bottom may require you to wrap it with the including silicone ring as it’s essy to slightly overtighten the bottom to the main frameFor $200, I have no regrets buying this hand grinder as I feel it compares to $400-500 electric grinders, at least for pourover.

Excellent product, lives up to the glowing reviews from the coffee community
Upgraded from a Breville combo espresso unit. So far, this has really delivered over the past ~3/4 months. With this unit, I’ve actually been able to taste the notes for my coffee beans!I’ve done plenty of research beforehand, and this unit is ideal for home brewers making both pourovers and espressos. Cant comment much on espresso, but the pourovers have been so good that I haven’t felt the need to try espresso much. Grinding espresso is a hassle though, and could be a deterrent for every day brewers. It might also be why I’ve been exclusively brewing pourovers. For those, I like to grind around 8.5 across the different bags I’ve tried so far.The recommended maintenance is involves a monthly disassembly, but I haven’t kept up with it. The unit still grinds and operates well. The disassembly can be daunting and confusing the first couple of times, but gets easy with use. Reference a video out there if you need help with it.The unit is very sturdy and has a premium feel to it. I haven’t tried transporting it, but the case it comes with seems quite good (comparable to a switch case)Note: if you have weak grip strength, consider using the little rubber ring inside. Fit it over the unit, and hold onto it for additional traction. Still a bit hard to use when grinding espresso, but it’ll help. You’ll inadvertently develop better grip strength with use haha

Top Notch Coffee Grinder
I’ve had this grinder now for 6 months and have used it almost every morning and I am impressed. After experimenting with various methods and grinds, I’ve pretty much settled on the pour over method with a grind number of 50, but to each their own. The grinder is a breeze to operate and provides a very good and consistent grind; I’m using French roast whole beans. The grinder is exceptionally made and looks as if it should last a lifetime. One thing I’ve learned and will pass on: I was experiencing a lot of static electricity after grinding and to say it was messy would be an understatement. I found out that if you add about 4-6 drops of water to the beans before grinding, stir the beans around to distribute the moisture then grind, like magic, no static, no mess. Not sure of the science behind this but it works great. Overall, the grinder is expensive, no doubt about it, but it is 100% worth it.

The very best hand grinder today
Purchased after a ton of research, used primarily for filter coffee, manual espresso on weekends (primarily macchiatos)The k-ultra is a best-in-class hand grinder capable of excellently uniform grinds at a huge range of sizes.I upgraded from a Timemore C3 and immediately noticed a tremendous difference in my cup. This grinder is capable of achieving extremely chocolatey and extremely fruity cups with ease. It's a hand grinder, so the best results aren't as repeatable as an automatic, but the highs are higher and lows aren't that low.Magnetic catch cup isn't nearly as worrying as I thought it would be in person, (that's not to say I haven't managed to spill it.)parts are of high quality and easy to clean, disassemble, reassemble, and zero.the handle part does get slippery after only a little use but it hasn't popped off during grinding for me, it's just looser than I'd like, not an issue though. After a few months of heavy daily use, I haven't noticed any deterioration of any of the parts except the aforementioned top bit.The K-ultra does its job grinding fine enough to dial in espresso, and coarse enough to dial in filter coffees. I've tried with everything from turkish to french press, (and everything in between except moka pot and siphon) and can confidently say it's good enough for all methods. I'm sure I could get 2% more quality from a 2k+ automatic monster but I'm more than happy with this thing. It's easy to crank and doesn't take too long even for large doses of espresso.Although thanks to Lance Hedrick I'm slow feeding now which more than doubles the grind time (but OMG the clarity.)

Great grinder
So easy to use and makes a great grind. Worth the money and I think it will last forever! It only takes a minute to grind 30 grams of beans and I don't wake anyone in the house. Super adjustable and perfect for my pour over or moka pot.

Amazing Quality
I had been using a $10 Mr. Coffee blade grinder for years prior to buying this 1ZPresso K-Ultra burr grinder in iron gray. And the Bialetti Moka Pot 6-cup has been my brew method for years. I have had some time on my hands for the past few months and realized I could definitely improve the finer things in my life like coffee quality. After watching a few captivating James Hoffmann videos about Moka pot technique, I bought the K-Ultra as well as some Aeropress paper filters. The K-Ultra is such a quality product. I have no regrets about the splurge. I have small-to-medium sized hands, and the K-Ultra is easy to hold and feels solid and heavy in the hand. The grip is good. The magnetic method of attaching the coffee grounds cup is so cool. You twist the grounds cup slightly, like you would a screw cap, which causes the magnets to not be lined up and allows you to easily remove the grounds cup. But when the grounds cup is attached to the body with the magnets lined up, it is very sturdily attached. Also, the coffee ground size produced by the K-Ultra appears uniform.I used Heart coffee beans from Portland for my first coffees with the 1ZPresso, but after finishing that went to a cheaper Peet's Major Dickason's dark roast store brand. I will admit that the 45 seconds or so of grinding the Heart beans had a few moments of straining. Those beans did require some decent torque a few times, but I think most people could handle it. Worst case scenario would be that someone would need to take a few short breaks while grinding some especially crunchy beans or to adjust their hand positioning. Grinding the Peet's brand coffee beans in comparison has been extremely easy. Before filtering the coffee and switching to the 1ZPresso K-Ultra, my coffee always had some tiny coffee grounds in it. I think this is normal for the Moka pot. And I was never able to produce much coffee with the 6-cup Moka pot--no more than a regular coffee/tea cup's worth. I would drink it down quickly and think to myself that I really should get the 12-Cup pot so I can have a satisfying amount of coffee or if I have a guest over. But since switching from the blade grinder to the 1ZPresso K-Ultra, my coffee seems much stronger. It's so strong that I have been adding it to hot water to make two separate cups of Americano, which are still potent. I will often end up being satisfied with just one Americano cup only. (Side note, there are also now no longer any coffee grounds present in my coffee thanks to the addition of the Aeropress filters as recommended in James Hoffmann's video). So the end result is that I feel like I'm getting enough coffee now with the Bialetti Moka Express 6-cup, whereas before I was thinking I would have to buy a bigger pot. That change is a result of the 1ZPresso K-Ultra--a truly awesome product.

Best I have ever used.
This is truly worth it. An exceptional grinder. It has a premium feel and looks great. The case and accessories are well thought out and helpful when traveling. It is on the larger side but this is great for filter coffee as the capacity can easily fit 30-45 grams depending on the bean. It’s very easy to use and dialing in has been a breeze. For V60 I usually stay between 6.5 and 7.5 and for aeropress it is usually a bit finer than that around 6 and 7. The external adjustment makes it very easy to switch between different beans no problem. No issues with retention either. The cups are sweet, balanced and with some clarity. Not a ton of clarity like what you would expect from ZP6 but it also means it is very forgiving and will produce great results no matter what you through at it. I also tried it with espresso and it was great. It took me 30 seconds day to grind a full 20 gram dose no problem (it was a dark roast though).Overall this is an awesome grinder that I keep coming back to and using it has been great. Would highly recommend it if you have the budget. It is worth it.

Amazing - French press tastes good at any grind size! (Huge sweet spot)
This has been a wonderful step on the coffee journey. I purchased it mainly for travel, French press / Pour over. Aeropress is too clean for me, experience like tea. I like body / experience.Started with grind size 8.5 for French press. Good. Creates a much thinner coffee than any other grinder I’ve used, but the taste was wonderful. Then I tried to find the lower limit. 7: Wonderful. 6: Wonderful. 5: like silt at the bottom of the French press, but even that still tasted good, better than any other grinder. It’s as if you can’t go wrong. Every grind size makes a fantastic cup. Everything is in the sweet spot. Never seen anything like this. Im a believer. This thing is like Christmas. And, as far as getting more body from my French press, I let it steep a little longer and it did get more soupy. That’s the problem with grinder reviews, you never know if the user knows how to make coffee.Other considerations: capacity for darkest of dark roast is 28g, bursting. 25g is more realistic. Cleaning has been easy, I use a conical shaped nylon wire brush scrubber on the inner wall, then an electric air blower (only at home). Then I use the brush that came with to get at the burs from the top. And I wipe the bottom edge of the inner burr with a rag to get the oils off. Seems to stay fairly clean after two weeks or so of daily use.1-month edit: used it for espresso, and it instantly replaced my electric burr grinder / Lebrew Sweet burrs (MiCoffee CF64V). I drink very dark French roast. The K-Ultra is not granular. One click is typically a 4-second difference. But it’s reliably pulling choco-thick shots. Since the first shot, my electric grinder hasn’t been used. Thinking about selling it.Now I’m looking into the j-ultra as well.

A premium "Do it all" grinder
If you're looking for a premium do it all grinder, this is it. The build quality, the grind consistency, the ease of use and the cups that I get out of this grinder are top notch.

Quiet and smooth
Smooth and comftable. expensive but should last me a very long time. It's quiet to use so I don't wake up the house, and the aroma it creates is almost as good as the coffee.

Everything I expected it to be
Beast of a grinder, have really struggled to make a bad cup with it. Build quality is top notch.
