Just made my kimchi. The color of coarse flakes is a beautiful deep bright red orange. Even my husband tried my fresh kimchi. Flavor is mild and he liked it. I made two batches of kimchi, both inedible, using red chili peppers as recommended in a couple of recipes. Then I found a recipe online written by a Korean who stressed that using Korean red pepper was essential. He was right!! My third try with kimchi using this particular pepper worked. The hotness of chili peppers drowns out all flavor in kimchi. This pepper is much, much milder, with just the right amount of warmth...and flavor. Wish it were more affordable. -- Diane Weber

I have ordered this many time. I plan to order more in the future. I like mild flavor because I can't eat something too spicy and I have to use enough to make the dish look red and delicious. This is the best one for my Korean dish.

I purchased this because the only ones carried in my local Asian store was from China, and I have to admit, that I did not realize that before using it. I lived in Korea for two years, and I wanted one made in Korea. I found this here, spent $55 to purchase it, and this is what I can say about this purchase: good taste , the “very spicy” should absolutely not be used, because it is not - on a spicy scale of 1-5, I give it a 2 (I am from the Caribbean, so please take that into consideration). This price probably makes sense to some because description noted an award. Also, Maangchi’s visit to their factory video - (by the way I have been a fan of Maangchi for years, and absolutely love her cooking and style), I am certain this price makes business sense to manufacturer, but zero frugal sense to consumer. I see nothing special about the taste, and the only reason I purchased it, is because it was Korean made. I will not purchase again, because I now realize that this purchase was senseless, as there is nothing else special about this product!!

Best for kimchi, worth the price and perfect flavor, medium hot. Not always available, so be careful about low-quality substitutions.

Made cucumber kimchi. Color and taste was amazing, red pepper powder really brought out the flavors. I will definitely buy more when I need to.

Got very spicy, wasn't very spicy. Still tastes fine.
