Serves the purpose for orchards perfectly and last very long time. The quality is very good and I am happy with the results of the process I see the flowers are benefiting from it being added to the pots of orchards.

I wish the bag was bigger, but I love this bark. It’s nice and chunky. It mixes well in my soil mixes for my succulents and cacti. A little goes a long way, thankfully. Definitely a staple in my garden bin.

it's nice product but smell not so good

I bought this to make my own potting soil mixes for my tropical plants, not for orchids. When I first opened the bag, the bark chips looked so pristine and in good shape that I thought they were fake for a brief moment. They even smell great. The size of the bark pieces is within an even range of each other, which was important for my soil mix, and the very occasional piece that was too big was easy to break and not brittle. They’re even a beautiful color compared to other bark I’ve used in the past. My plants are happy with the new bark so far. No parasites, no bugs. I really have no complaints, it exceeded expectations.

10/10 recommend. if you don’t have the money to splurge on bark - this is absolutely great quality & AFFORDABLE bark. because - & now i don’t know about you but - i’d much rather spend less & get excellent quality bark. it’s a no-brainer really. i add this bark (or the other bettergro orchid bark that has the charcoal + chunky perlite pieces) to my potting mix that i make myself. i use essentially the same mix (a potting mix + bark + perlite + charcoal + worm castings) for my succulents (i add lava rock &/or sand for them, but i’ve also used the exact same mix with excellent results) & tropical plants - but with my succulents i like to cut the bark into smaller (maybe nickel sized) pieces; my tropical plants get the larger pieces, depending on the size of the pot, of course. this is why i really like this bark. there’s nice big pieces if you need them but you can also make them into whatever size you want/need. does it take more time? sure. but if you’re like me.. then your plant babies are worth it. i’d rather buy bark that’s too big rather than too small. there’s a lot more you can do with bigger pieces. the biggest thing though - this bark is always really great quality. i’ve never gotten a bag that i’ve been disappointed with. there are other brands (i won’t mention names, but the typical cheap brand) and their bark is always… wet… & almost kind of soggy… mushy…falls apart easily - it just seems to be breaking down immediately. i know bark isn’t going to last forever. but if i pot up an orchid, i expect the bark to hold out for AT the VERY LEAST a year, but closer to two really. the other brand didnt even last a year. i’ve had a couple of my phalaenopsis orchids in this bettergro bark + charcoal + perlite + long fibered sphagnum moss for a year; succulents & tropical plants are in their pots for sometimes 2 years; i never have to repot because the bark is quickly deteriorating & not doing its job - with bettergro bark, i always repot because the plant’s outgrown the pot. i recently moved from VA to FL & because it’s so humid here i’m wanting to repot my plants; get the LFSM out of my orchid mix - & i came to amazon to find my bettergro bark! seriously - if you’re on the fence about bark for your orchids or tropical plants, i’m telling you, you won’t be disappointed with this bark. the quality.. i was honestly surprised. i’ve used expensive brands & honestly, i prefer bettergro bark.. & price has very little to do with it. try it out. you won’t be disappointed. just an extra thought - i wish i could get the dendrobium mix by bettergro! i never see it in stores & can’t find it on amazon.

Bought this Better-Gro Orchid Bark because it is recommended and endorsed by the American Orchid Society. Apparently, the medium should be dumped, and new medium put in its place wvery 1 to 2 years. The bark medium loses its ability to hold moisture after watering, making survival more difficult for the orchid. My orchid is 8 years old, and stopped blooming, and I read the American Orchid Society website material, very detailed and helpful. I decided to change out the bark medium, trim all dead root material, and buy a hanging pot with a covo (coconut finer) liner. I also bought two Better-Gro Orchid foods, one is 3 times a month, the other just once a month. Finally, I bought an LED GroLight Bulb, and a small clamp-on metal lamp with shade to hang 12” directly above the Orchid. The bulb is FEIT, and I will add a review of that as well. The orchid roots are now fatter, it almost immediately grew a new leaf, and has 4-5 new roots. It looks much better, and hope it will get a bloom spike in the very near future. It is definitely happier, and I owe it to the American Orchid Society website,!which has all educational materials a relative novice could want. Read up and you will be rewarded with happier plants!

I replanted my orchids with fresh bark and I know they needed this, because they look so healthy! Very easy to use and the pieces were just the right size.

Used this to repot some phals and they definitely seem to like it. It's well-draining and leaves lots of space for healthy root growth. It's a big bag which was great for the price and the pieces of bark were fresh and not dusty. They're of a reasonable size too, not too big and not too small. I probably wouldn't use this for oncidiums or dendrobiums unless I had mixed it with smaller pieces of bark or perlite though, as it is very well draining and in my climate those orchids do better in more retentive mediums.

For any indoor plant collector bark is a must and not just for orchids. Bark allows plant roots to drain and allows for air flow. In my experience Better Gro orchid bark provides a healthy bark I feel safe to include in any soil medium. It is the only bark I use. Definitely recommended.

Just enough for my 1 bag of potting mix. Its high quality bark. Its pricy but its worth your money.

I've only started using this but it's definitely a good product and I use it to make my own blend of chunky aroid mix. So far plants seem to love it.
