Do i fil this water heater with water??

You need a pump to pump water from a source ( a tank, a lake or a swimming pool, etc.) once it senses the water is flowing through, it turn itself own. It has a limit of 20 minutes of continuous running then it shut it self off. A timer for a water pump to off before 20 minutes and turn on after 1 minute off is useful.

Can i run this with just a propane tank and water or do i need a water pump as well

Hi there! You need to have above 20 psi water pressure. 30-50 for best results.

Can i hook this to a standing solar shower?

The Eccotemp has a standard connector that fits a garden hose to get the water. Then there is a smaller connector and hose (as shown in the picture) that connects the heater to the shower head. If your solar shower has a standard connector to allow it to attach to the Eccotemp by a hose it should work. We have ours hooked outside to a standing shower. It depends on your solar shower - if it's just a bag of water or a stand shower with a connector.

Does it require any special maintenance before going into long storage?

Make sure All water is drained. This model breaks very easily, the thin tubing bursts.
