Essential Oil Safety: A Guide for Health Care Professionals: 9780443062414: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: A "must-have" for anyone serious about essential oils and their use. - I am studying in an aromatherapy certification program, and this book is a must have if you are serious about learning the material. I have the e-book on my tablet, and it is much easier to have with me to look up information on the go. A lot of it is definitely over my head, but what you can learn from this is extremely valuable to anyone considering a career, or supplementing an existing business with the use of essential oils. Robert is the father of aromatherapy in the US, and his knowledge and research is extensive. Most people will never understand this book. But if you want to use essential oils safely, this should be in everyone's library. It's not about telling you what you can't do or use, it's giving you a picture of benefits and risks to each oil, so that you can make that educated decision for yourself or your clients. Review: Safety first - I have not put this down since I received it. Yes it is a bit over my head as I am no chemistry major, and I find myself having to look up many words to know what they are talking about as it written like a textbook. But, it is all based on facts and studies, gives recommendations on whether it is actually safe or not orally, skin sensitivities, the safe amounts, etc. As I'm new to essential oils, I wanted to do it right, without all of the misleading info I was sure I was seeing on some EO pages for big oil companies. After reading a few pages, I know those companies are pushing products unsafely at times, and I am glad I purchased this book. You can't put price on this kind of quality. I bought a used version to save a few $, but still worth every penny!!!!!. I just got myself some tabs for easy finding of pages, as I have to go to glossary a lot, and it is a huge book. It has already made it easier, and not so overwhelming. I am already finding other books I've purchased recently inadequate comparably.

Excellent book on learning how to use essential oils safely. Highly recommend.
I ordered this book as a supplement guide for my aromatherapy course. It's very informative and extremely useful in learning essential oils safety. It discusses the chemical components of each oil, benefits and uses. The pictures in the book are not in color. This is a big textbook and heavy to carry around. I have the Kindle version on my phone for quick and easy reference wherever I go. The hardcover textbook is good to use at home as a desk reference. It's always good to know how to safely use essential oils effectively, and this book teaches the best way to do so. Delivery took about a week and it was packaged well. The book is expensive, but textbooks usually are. It's definitely worth the price.

This is a MUST buy for essential oil users!
This book is a must for anyone using essential oils! It's comprehensive and filled with useful information on essential oil toxicity. This is very helpful given the lack of consistency of opinion between the different schools of thought on essential oil usage, and I find that this has been a great resource in monitoring for possible toxicity and drug interactions for various health related issues. This is not what I would consider an easy ready, but it doesn't claim to be either. I actually appreciate that it's written in a scholarly manner with plenty of citations and what appears to be objective, unbiased facts. My only regret is that I waited so long to order this.

An outstanding reference
This is a very dense book - it is heavy, both with words and in weight. It is very well researched. It is full of useful information. I found it overwhelming. I don't know that I will use it very often however, which is why I gave it four stars. I was hoping it had more information on formulations. While very well researched, I hoped it would have more information on scientific studies into the efficacies and therapeutic use of the oils. It is exactly what it's title implies, a safety manual for essential oils.

Awesome resource - a must have!
Right now, I'm renting the ebook; I wanted to see if it had (primarily) the safety data that I was looking for to pass along to customers. IT DOES. Wow, it's just awesome. While I do think that a lot more research has been done on EOs since this was last rewritten, and perhaps Tisserand and Young are a tad conservative overall - I would MUCH rather be too conservative in how I represent the safety of a particular oil versus being too liberal or uninformed. If a purchaser of an oil chooses to ignore what I say, that's on them, then - I feel like I've done what I can to inform them of the risks. I particularly liked the inclusion of mainstream medication interactions. I'm a little tired of saying "check with your doctor" all the time - doctors mostly don't know a thing about oils and can't really give a solid answer. I also was particular interested in learning about Wintergreen and all its risks. I. Had. No. Idea....none. I've since pulled it from my online lineup of oils that I sell - at this point, I'll only sell it when I can be face to face with someone to really discuss the risks in using Wintergreen. And it's not that Wintergreen isn't safe - it IS, but only when used properly and with the proper cautions regarding salicylates and kids as well as the risk of salicylate reactions, which many people have and don't know. When my rental period is up, I'll be buying the hardbound version of this book for sure!

More than "safety" it's an irreplaceable reference.
This is a thorough academic textbook on essential oils, their compositions, and their constituents. I was researching oils individually to determine their compositions for the sake of perfume formulae, i.e., what do I need to add to clove oil to get a product more like bay rum? Every time I made a new entry I found myself thinking, "Someone has to have done this already, if I could only find it . . ." Well, find it I have, and its nondescriptive title is "Essential Oil Safety". This title was clearly chosen because "Essential Oil Bible", "Greatest Reference on Essential Oils Ever", and "What's in Dem Plants?" weren't rigorous enough sounding to meet the author's taste.

Essential oils are trending highly at the moment and people with a day or two's training are selling them. They are extremely potent and its very easy to unintionally cause harm to friends and family if you don't know about the dosage and use of them. This book is vital for anyone doing so. It's not going to tell you that lavender is good for stress etc, it's going to tell you about the scientific effects of oils, not the fluffy multi level marketing company spiel - some of which is down right dangerous, like ingesting essential oils. Robert Tisserand has been involved with essential oils his entire life and is the godfather of the EO industry. He's also travelled the world giving lectures on the use of essential oils and I've had the pleasure is attending one of his talks. As someone who has their own natural skincare brand, Robert's book is the first source I reach for when I'm looking for oil safety information. Be safe, be educated and get your information from multiple sources, not just the MLM company with pretty brochures.
