AltraMen's Olympus 5 Trail Running
K**.
One of the most comfortable shoes I've bought
Extremely comfortable and roomy. True to size. Altra makes great shoes, got these on sale but they're worth full price.

Best shoe for everyday wear
I have wide feet and a bunion from wearing tight shoes. This is the only shoe I can find with a wide toe box that still has lots of padding and support in the sole. Fits well for running, but is now my every day shoe.

Perfect trial shoe for what I need.
Already own Altra Lone Peak 6 which I found a little lightweight. The Olympus 5 is much better for my needs. Use for hiking and not running. Has a vibram sole which some dont like but I find ideal. On another buyers advice I added a superfeet insole for added arch support and I have found the perfect shoe for me. Worked out a little expensive but if it gets you what you need!! Comfortable straight from the box. Not waterproof but dry quickly. Only remains to see how they last under prolonged use.Beware ..Once you get used to a wide toe box shoe like the Altra range you cant go back to standard fitting shoes. I have a pair of Hoka which I cant use anymore.

Super comfortable- terrible construction
Definitely one of the best (the best?) fitting, most comfortable shoes to ever grace my wide feet. The above said- that’s of little use if I cannot wear them because they are falling apart from light street walking use! I do not think I have actually used these shoes on a trail yet, god only knows how people ‘baby’ these treads on trail! From very light use I have severe scuffing and rubbing of the uppers, the side foam is deteriorating excessively and the vibram undersole pieces are ‘peeling’ from the footbed - just not good enough!I will track this product for future consideration purely because of the fit and comfort- but I will never buy unless I read plenty of reviews stating that they have resolved the durability issue and I take a punt in a sale…A ‘collab’ with someone like Scarpa (who know how to build footwear) would be the way forward.

Great shoe
I have just returned from walking more than 600 miles on the Camino Frances and the Camino Ingles. The Olympus 5s are much more durable than the 4s.I had to replace the insoles after more than 500 miles as they were done.I had no blisters or any other issues.I wore toe socks and thin hiking socks.I have used Altras for several years and these are by far the best so far.My only gripe is that the laces are too short and also come untied too easily.

Poor quality
Really disappointed with yet another pair of Altra’s being sub standard!I like these shoes because they’ve significantly reduced so foot pain I’ve had with other shoesBoth these and the mid Olympus 5 sole had quality issues and so I’m off to look at some Hoka shoesSo long Atra!

Good fit, poor build.
Frustrated with these. I’ve had them a few months and they are great in terms of comfort with wider feet and a “Greek toe”The grip off road is terrific especially when in the descent. They transition onto road sections fine when needed on route. However… the build quality is so poor, they are already falling apart with only 70 or so miles on them. Some side trim is coming off (trivial but still) but more annoying is the grip as come off, it’s only going to get worse. So frustrating, excellent design poorly executed.

Comfortable shoe
The altra shoes are not only comfortable and eye catching with their design, they are a safe shoe. I refer to them as heal to toe shoe that makes me walk by not sliding my feet and causing me to trip. I have two pair and love their various colors.

Needed Zero Down Shoes
I've been a runner and hiker most of my life but my feet are shot. I'm taking drastic measures to correct problems without having surgery or injections. Going to zero down shoes with a wide natural toe is not the drastic part, it's the easy part. I'm also transitioning to bare foot shoes when I'm not at work. This is going to take a while to undo what I've done but so far it seems to be helping. Most people take this journey way too fast so I'm taking people's advice and going slow. These are my first Altras after researching many brands and I like them. Very comfortable. The cushion is good yet not squishy like Hoka, but most of all it's a zero down shoe with plenty of room for my toes to move. Hopefully I can reverse my Morton's Neuroma and abductor digili minimi pain. If your feet hurt then life can be tough. The heel is more snug then I expected (I have very thin feet with no fat) so be warmed.I would have preferred to have gotten the all black but it was $52 more than the black and gray. Couldn't justify it. I did find this color on sale so make sure if you're not picky on what color you need that you look at the different versions. These shoes are not cheap so even $109 in this economy is quite a bit. Eventually I'll be using these for mountain hikes but for a while I'll be using these at work simply as a good pair of shoes. They might look a little funny to some because of the larger toe box but frankly I could care less what people think. At least I can see my feet.Made of good quality materials and even though it doesn't look like it it's quite a light shoe.Definitely worth trying. If these are your first is zero down shoes then take it easy at first. If you're using them to eventually transfer over to barefoot shoes, take it easy, this is not a race.Go up half or a whole size on these. They run small.

Love the wide toe box for trail running. Very durable and grippy sole.

These are great!
I’ve been seeing adds for Altra non stop and my Hokas are just wearing out too quickly so I figured I’d give them a try. I’m a 13 non wide and they are super comfortable. There’s plenty of room in them in the right places like the toe box but snug to support your foot. I wear these as a daily and still work out in my Brooks but these will work in a pinch too. They were also great in this last snow with limited slippage.
