Does it have a lacquer or a coating on it to protect it from tarnishing?

The Bowl is Lacquer coated from outside.

Are the bowls food-safe out of the box, or do they need to be treated first before use like some copper bowls?

I think it needs to be treated because mine got discolored from using. I didn't know it was to be treated. I wonder how to get the dark discoloration out of it now. Thanks for asking. Now maybe you can help me, lol.

what is the liquid capacity of this bowl?

It's definitely not 1 cup ...lol

Why did the inside turn silver when I put water in there?

Copper turns green because of chemical reactions with the elements. ... Just as iron that is left unprotected in open air will corrode and form a flaky orange-red outer layer, copper that is exposed to the elements undergoes a series of chemical reactions that give the shiny metal a pale green outer layer called a patina
