Zoo Med Spirulina 20 Flake Fish Food, 4-Ounce

This is an initial review. Tons of big, crispy flakes. I really like the look/ feel. Smell isn't unpleasant. I have four tanks with hundreds of community fish. Their diet varies. Mostly Community Crave flakes, some New Spectrum pellets/ wafers, Bug Bites; I was using Cobalt Ultra Spirolina, but I can't find it anymore, hence this purchase. Great price. Decent ingredients; 20% spirolina, and it's the second ingredient under protien; a few fillers, but lower down. Experation date is over two years, so that's good. Just fed them, and everyone was excited to eat! The true test will be the next vacuum; how well it was absorbed, and consumed.

My fish love this food. Because it is spirulina and not the orange food, the water does not look brown between weekly water refreshment. The fish are in good health, are not fighting with each other due to hunger and it is easily digestible by them. The size of the container works great to feed my fish in our 90 gallon tank.

My spoiled rotten gold and minnow fish love this food! They reside in a heavily planted tank outside in an IBC tank. Planted with water lettuce, hornwort, hyacinth and duckweed. A plentiful salad bar! But when I break out these spirulina flakes..... mad rush. Some of the flakes are quite big which is great, makes the fish have to work a bit for their free meal. Builds character!

First off…the container is huge! Second…my plecos and two diff tanks actually moved for this lol IYKYK. Otherwise, I got this so my Mbuna don’t get malowi bloat. I gave to all 4 tanks- betta, Tetra and otto, Ralph catfish and Mbuna, and convict cichlids and fry. They all ate it right up no problem.

I try to write honest and helpful reviews. I happen to really love this high quality product and believe it to be one of the best fish foods on the market today. I just wish my fish felt the same way about it. I have a 75 gallon community aquarium and my fish just tolerate this food. They seem to eat it reluctantly, not enthusiastically. I had to withhold food for 2 days to get them hungry enough to start eating it. They now take the flakes readily but like I said they seem to look back at me as if to say, where is my tasty, artificially colored and unhealthy flakes? The high spirulina content is great, now all the fish poop green so I know it's in there. Think of this flake food as health food for your fish. At first your fish will hold out for the old super tasty, unhealthy food. Then they will eat this and begin to feel and look better. We all know we should be eating more healthy options to help us live longer more fruitful lives. Buy this for your fish as the staple in the diet and buy other things to give them an occasional treat. The flakes are very large which I appreciate. I also have a freshwater shrimp and rabbit snail aquarium and I will say that my freshwater shrimp and the snails absolutely love this food and eat it aggressively. The shrimp have been more active, breeding more readily since I added this food into their diets. Update: 05/24/2016 My fish and I have grown to really love this food. There is not hesitation during feeding and the fish are looking happy and healthy. I like that 20% of the food is spirulina. Great job Zoo Med.

Having kept fish for over 35 years there are few foods I haven't tried. Along time fan of Zoo Med for a multitude of reasons. Zoo Med uses top grade ingredients and the foods are made here in the United States. Unlike so many imports from China Zoo Med foods are free of filler, sub par ingredients and what is most important free of Ethoxyquin. Ethoxyquin is a toxic pesticide often touted as a preservative - It's long been banned from dog and cat foods however due to poor regulation lower end foods continue to use it. Studies have proven that Ethoxyquin even in trace amounts is especially lethal to fish. Studies that support this can be confirmed by simply looking ethoxyquin up on Wikipedia and follow the links to the findings. Regarding Spirulina 20 - this is an outstanding, naturally color enhancing food. Packed with protein at 45% this food is perfect for fish ranging from African Cichlids to Fancy Ornamental Goldfish - both of which I keep in a never ending accumulation of fish tanks. Spirulina is a plant based plankton often referred to as "the perfect food" it's packed with protein, vitamins A1, B1,B2,B6,B12 and vitamins C and E. In addition Spirulina is rich in eight essential fatty amino acids - it's a wonderfully healthy food. The flakes are huge which makes feeding a breeze - I have a huge Red Devil Cichlid who goes crazy when he sees the jar. My Ornamental goldfish and other Cichlids are equally crazy for it. Perfect for salt, fresh and brackish water fish - Spirulina 20 is an absolutely wonderful food which will enhance both the color and health of most any fish you keep.

Used this for my fish's food when I used to own fish tanks, very highly reliable, and the fish's colors were popping with this high quality food! Now I currently use this in a mix for my roaches to feed my lizard. Keeps them all very healthy and gut loading works great!

Yummies for guppies!

Iv heard and have seen reviews on this food. I had some guppies over eating and dying of bloat Since iv switched brands my fish seem healthier and I see more fry I don't have any fish bloated My cichlids love this food, I have Blood Parrots and Severums they eat this all up My flower horns refuse pellets and other forms of cichlid food brands Since Covid 19 Lock down I haven't been able to get Frozen blood worms or brine shrimp My male and female are super picky, they seem to like the Spirulina freeze dried blood worms just as much as the frozen food I feed them before. I strongly suggest this food all my fish seem to be healthy with a great diet of mixed fish foods this is a great addition for all fish. 10/10 product must have for all fish keepers

My cichlids love this food. The colour of my fish improved after I switched over to the food. Wish I could buy the 2lb tub

Fish seem to like this, very little residue.
