Excellent reach and sharpness for a zoom
Great long reach lens with internal focusing. Very sharp pictures. Took it on safari to South Africa and took thousands of fantastic pictures. With Lens hood added this is physically a long lens, but excellent build quality.Replaced a Nikkor 200-500 lens. This 180-600 is better in all ways. Sharper images, more modern feel, ultrafast and silent focus. Faster VR than the older lens. Very smooth controls. Highly recommended.

Excellent performance, although the unsealed box raised concerns
I paid £1,599.00 in late September 2026, for the Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR and have been testing it with my Nikon Z6III in my local park, nature reserve, and cemetery, primarily photographing birds and other wildlife. My first impression on opening the package was slightly mixed. There was no seal on the branded Nikon box, whereas all my other Nikon NIKKOR lenses have arrived with one. This made me wonder whether the lens might previously have been returned. However, beyond the missing seal, everything inside appeared clean and new, with no obvious signs of handling or use, so I cannot say with certainty that it was a returned item. The lens itself is certainly weighty, although that is to be expected from a full-frame super-telephoto zoom offering this sort of focal range. It feels substantial when paired with the Z6III, and the weight becomes noticeable during a longer walk or an extended handheld session. That said, I have been impressed by what I can achieve without using a monopod or tripod. The robin, rabbit and orange hawkweed photographs included with this review were all taken handheld, and on a slightly cloudy day. The lens allowed me to photograph the animals from a comfortable distance (around 15 metres) while producing good subject detail and attractive background separation. I was impressed with the bokeh effect when taking the photo of the hawkweed (although I wouldn't normally use such a lens for close-up photography). Autofocus worked quickly and reliably. The 180-600mm range is extremely useful for wildlife photography because it gives plenty of flexibility when subjects are at different distances. The internal zoom design also makes the lens feel more predictable in use, as the barrel does not extend when zooming. When taking the photo of the cormorant, I had the camera resting on a hide windowsill, and the distance was probably around 70-80 metres away with good light. This will not be a lightweight walk-around lens, and I will probably use a monopod or tripod for longer sessions. Nevertheless, the handheld results have given me confidence that I can still use it effectively when I need to react quickly.Overall, I am very pleased with the photographic results so far. My only concern relates to the missing box seal and the possibility that my particular example had previously been opened. The lens itself, however, appeared to be in new condition and has performed very well during my initial wildlife testing.

Sharp but Weighty
Having been a Nikon man for many years, firstly with the D series cameras, I eventually upgraded to the Z6ii. As any photographer knows it is not the camera cost, but the replacing lenses from one fit to another, in my case F mount to Z. Initially I got the FTZ adapter to use my F lenses, and one of my favourites was the Tamron 150-600mm G2, but I have now replaced it with the Nikon Z 180-600mm. After using it for a few weeks I must say I am well impressed with the results, pin sharp images on both the Z6 and Z6ii. I particularly like the internal focusing so that the lens length remains the same, much better balance especially when hand-held. The only downside is it is a bit on the heavy side, but I can live with that. I have attached a few pics taken recently. Oh, and why on earth don't Nikon provide a Swiss ARCA compatible tripod collar with their lenses!

Thee Wildlife Lens
Nikon’s single greatest value lens beyond the standard S line combo kit.Superb glass. Value for money and top results and incredibly light weight for the size.

Nikon z180-600 lens.
Unfortunately as soon as I received the lens I attached it to my Z8and turned the camera on. OMG there was a terrible noise coming from the lens . Vibration was so bad that the monitor was flickering.I tried it on my Z6ii and the same thing happened so it went straight back to Amazon.

Indispensable
Anyone with a Nikon Z camera who is interested in wildlife photography will wonder how they ever coped without this lens. Not a bank breaker like so many powerful lenses.

Tack-Sharp Powerhouse for Nikon Z mount
A near-perfect telephoto lens for Nikon Z-mount cameras. The 180–600mm zoom range offers excellent versatility for wildlife and bird photography, and with the right settings the images are consistently tack-sharp. I’ve been using it for the past few weeks with my Nikon Z6III and the results have been outstanding. The lens is slightly on the heavier side, so a monopod is recommended for longer sessions, but the handling remains well balanced. Compared to the Tamron 150–600mm, this lens is marginally heavier but delivers noticeably better image quality. The internal zoom design is a big plus—there are no extending parts, which helps with balance and dust resistance. Considering the price, it offers excellent value for money, especially since I picked it up for under ₹1.5 lakh during the Republic Day sale.Very happy with the purchase and highly recommended for serious and hobbyist wildlife and bird photographers.

A workhorse telephoto that delivered in the Pantanal
I bought the Nikon 180–600mm specifically for a jaguar photography trip to the Pantanal, and it proved its worth from the first morning on the river. The autofocus locked on quickly even in dappled light, the images were crisp and clear across the zoom range, and the lens handled fast movement without any hesitation. What surprised me most was how practical it felt for long days on the boat. The weight is manageable for a super-tele, the zoom throw is smooth, and the stabilisation genuinely helps when you’re shooting off a drifting vessel. I came home with some of the sharpest wildlife shots I’ve ever taken. For anyone heading into big-cat or safari environments, this lens is a genuinely smart investment — reliable, versatile, and optically excellent when it counts
