Review: Great taste and a great gift!! - First off let me say I live in a coffee culture. Here in the DR we don’t mess around. We grow it, we roast it, and we drink it. Ordering was easy and my solo pack of coffee arrived quickly. Not wanting to experience this little bit of luxury by myself I we t to my Argentinian friends house who has a grinder and a moka pot or greka as they’re called here. First off: packaging is simple but elegant. But definitely lets you know you’ve ordered something special. 2. Beans were sealed in a vacuum sealed envelope and when it opened the smell of the beans filled the room with a wonderful aroma. 3. You could see the beans were glistening with the oils that make for good flavor and smelled great out of the package. 4. Ground nicely and packed down well in the greka. 5. As it brewed, the rich strong aroma was making us all excited to try it. We were sure not to leave it on the stove for too long because we didn’t want to burn it. 6. Poured into porcelain cups we all decided to try it black without anything in it to start and what really came across to me was a) the smoothness. Not bitter at all. And b) the fruity taste and smell from the coffee. The taste is amazing. And as someone who usually pounds a ton of milk into his coffee I can tell you I would have no problem drinking this black. 6. Decide to try the last 1/3 of a cup with milk and it was amazing. All the flavor held through the creaminess of the now “cafe con leche” Overall a fantastic coffee experiment and would make a great gift for someone who loves the ritual of making coffee. The steps involved and of course the novelty of the process. Is it expensive ? Yes. But sometimes it’s ok to let yourself enjoy something special it treats someone to that experience.
Review: It is what it says - I am not a coffee snob, but I can tell the difference between good and bad tasting coffee. My wife, is the "real" coffee drinker in the family, and she knows even better than I. We got this, as we had tried the Kopi Luwak coffee, and while we found it a bit less bitter than most coffees we have had, it was just slightly so. For the cost vs amount received, we had hoped for a bit more. But, it was a good starting point to try. Then we were told about this, and figured even if it was about the same, it would put us in a unique position to tell our friends and family that we had tried "elephant poop coffee" or the "most expensive cup of coffee in the world". We weren't expecting much, but we were surprised. While it did only produce a normal mug size for her (forget the exact size of her mug, but 12-16 oz I believe), and an espresso cup size for me, we both found it to be an excellent coffee. There was not a hint of bitterness to be found and the taste was very smooth and delicious. It was, as it was stated to be. An excellent cup of coffee that was very expensive. The fact that it also helps support the community and elephants was nice as well. I am sure that the company isn't operating at a loss either, but they don't seem to be greedily gathering up wild elephants and shoving coffee berries down their throats, but rather doing it on a much smaller scale where everyone involved (including the elephamts) are benefiting. TL:DR: If you are more into coffee than just hitting the convenience store on the way to work, and know how to properly brew it, you can get an excellent, smooth, non-bitter cup of coffee that will also give you a unique bit of conversation to toss in when speaking with friends and relatives while also helping to support at least one group of elephants and their human friends and neighbors in Thailand.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these beans from elephant poo?**
A: These are 100% Thai Arabica beans that have been naturally refined by elephants.

**Q: What is the best way to brew this?**
A: Which brewer to use is a bit subjective as it depends on how concentrated you like your coffee. My preference as Founder is with the Black Ivory Coffee syphon as it gives a really nice balanced cup and helps to bring out the more delicate notes. If you cannot afford our syphon or do not want to pay this amount a less expensive option is with a pour over like a V60. If you prefer a stronger cup I recommend to brew with a mocha pot. To be blunt, the roast profile is not designed for an espresso so I don't recommend it brewed this way and on the opposite spectrum I really do not like it with a French Press / plunger as the cup is not very balanced. Thanks for your question and feel free to ask anything else. Our syphon can be found on our website and you can ask questions direct to me there as well.

**Q: Correct me if I’m wrong, they want $200 for 3 single servings of coffee?**
A: I will be happy to correct you. Each pack of 35 grams / 1.23 ounces can serve roughly 4 espresso size cups or 2 mugs depending on your brewing method. As a result this triple pack is the equivalent of 12 espresso size cups or 6 mugs of Black Ivory Coffee. Please also note that this is the world's most expensive coffee and with only roughly 100 kg / 220 lbs harvested in 2019 it is among the rarest in the world. As the owner of Black Ivory Coffee, my creation is not meant to appeal to a wide audience. It is for those who love a luxury product that tastes great, loves an intrigued story that can be chains with friends/loved ones, is rare, socially conscious and in this case, supports elephants in N.E. Thailand. I hope this gives you the information you require but please do not hesitate to ask a follow‐up question. Your inquiry is appreciated.

**Q: Just out of curiosity is this from a specific species of elephant? If so which one?**
A: The elephants who voluntarily snack on coffee cherries in order to create Black Ivory Coffee are generically referred to as Thai elephants. However, "Thai elephants" is not a name of species or sub-species. Specifically, they fall under the species of Asian elephant and sub-species of Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus). To clarify, Indian elephants refer to the sub-species not the geographic location which in this case is Thailand. I hope this helps even though it sounds a bit confusing.

I expected the coffee to have a strong, authentic, and unique flavor, but it was quite the opposite.
